I have 2 cotons both 1-1/2 years old. I only feed raw to both of them and have found out that a total of 1/2 cup of food per day per day is all they need (1/4 per meal for each). They are at a great weight, happy and have beautiful teeth.

Just remember to slowly convert your new dog to whatever you do decide to feed him/her.

If you feed kibble see what size kibble he is being fed now and maybe you can use this as a guide to what he will be able to handle down the road.

Marie, when you “weigh and feed” do you add anything else to the food or give as is? Is this done for every meal and if so, is there a need for vitamins or any other stuff that needs to be added for a complete meal?

I would start with a call to the vet right away, because at this age I think that mom is the only nutrition that they get. I know you can go to a GOOD pet food store and they have something like “baby formula” that you can use. I don’t know how much or how long, hopefully your vet can direct you.

Beverly, I have two cottons, 1 1/2yr old, and I have had the same problem with the eye staining their whole life. I feed only raw, and pretty much the identical ones that Dori listed and they only get filtered water and if they get treats they get either fruit/veges or small pieces of freeze dried food. They do get bully sticks and raw bones from time to time. I’ve tried the sardines in water but neither one will eat them. My husband is very frustrated with the staining and has even said that he wants to try the stuff called Angel Eyes but I don’t have a good feeling with any of that stuff.
They are due their “shots” and I’m wondering about getting titers for some, and wonder if their is anything out there for heart worms besides stuff like heart guard.

If you contact COSTCO they may be more reactive to the problems than Diamond. Costco has a department for recalls that may help also, even though this hasn’t been recalled, yet.

I spoke with one of the owners and they do not ship and do not sell on line, you have to get it thru a pet food store. They have sales every now and then.

How often can it be applied, weekly, monthly and do I only put it around the neck and tail. If my dogs chew on themselves will it hurt them?

I’m not making a recommendation but am wondering if anyone has/had experience with Wild T Bison Dog Food? They are located in Virginia and I found them while doing a search for raw food. They are a bison farm and make their own products. Thanks for any info.

Naturella thanks so much for the info. I love your recipe for the “doggie ice cream” I’m going to make some very soon. I wish I lived near a Publix but we don’t have them in Richmond, VA. My little guy, I just weighed him, has lost 4 lbs in the past month and his sister has also lost the same amount of weight. I feed by the charts on the food that I give them, but I know that this is not the thread for this topic, so back to the matter at hand. Anyway the little guys mouth is very small and he has an overbite so he has a little trouble chewing hard food, would he do OK with the chicken/turkey necks. How about the wings of chicken. Does the marrow cause loose stools or do dogs do well when left in the bone.

OK I have two cottons both a year old. I am really interested in giving them raw bones both for recreation and meals but am so afraid of them choking. The little guy is 10 pounds and his sister is 17 pounds. I feel them a raw diet (primal, S&C, and a few others) and give them frozen/defrosted tripe from vital essentials.

What animal size would be appropriate for them? and do I need to take the marrow out of the marrow bones to keep them from getting too much fat and then GI distress?

    Thanks so much

My question is, can I give my cotons, 9 months old, the probiotics that I take myself. I was giving them the Ask Ariel brand once a day but have just run out and to be honest they were very expensive, especially giving to 2 dogs.

theBCnut what brand of food do you suggest? Everything I use is grain free and high in protein. What brand of digestive enzymes would someone suggest, there are so many out there and I don’t want to waste my $$$.

    Thanks

Thanks Patty, I just started yesterday giving them The Honest Kitchen Pro Bloom Instant Goat’s Milk (following directions on box), does this have enough digestive enzymes or do you recommend adding something else. You had mentioned that you started using something when your pup started to eat grass, is that something that I should also consider. I want to do the very best I can for these babies to keep them healthy. I’ve been thinking about adding a kibble to their diet because feeding them 3X a day is getting expensive and we are going thru a lot of canned food. Any suggestions on what to add? Does the type of food that I feed, in your opinion, have anything to do with the “pink” coloring on the hair under their eyes. I give them only filtered water.
