in reply to: Rabies Shot for Puppy (13.5 weeks) #63385 Report Abuse

    Hound Dog Mom,
Could you clarify something for me-if you vaccinate at 4 months for rabies, do you wait until the Pup is 1yr & 4 months old to get another rabies? Or do you vaccinate when the pup is a year old? I ask because my vest also said Millie needs rabies at 4 months, I did & the breeder told me I should have waited until she was 6 months old, anyway does Millie get another rabies when she is a year old or do I wait 1 year from her last shot??
    thanks for the clarification.
Where I live they are for the 1st time offering 3 yr rabies-so that’s what I will get, do you suggest she get parvo distemper again? I am very very wary of over vaccinationing i prefer to do only what is necessary
    Thank you

in reply to: Best Home or Commercial Remedy for Ear Wax #63383 Report Abuse

    Thank you,
I always thought that was ok, but this handbook I have says vinegar & hydrogen peroxide are both no-no’s, says it could burn the ears.
    Everybook has different opinion.
    Thanks again

    Dori,
Please let me know how the girls do on KBPF-I ALMOST placed an order for the trial sizes, but my head is spinning from what I already have in the bullpen for Millie.
The next free-dried i have for her is the Oracle grain-free, still waiting for the Primal Raw.
I,too was loved by the shelter, all the foods I tried for pepper & poor thing couldn’t tolerate any.
Thanks for the heads up with the fruits and veggies -I only feed 1 type of treat its called Cocotherapy-freeze dried fruits or veggies they are very costly & the bags are very empty for $9.95 a bag, I don’t use any commercial bones either.
When I first got Pepper & didn’t know anything I bought her Greenies for her dental issues-my angel got so sick on them, I swore I would never again buy anything like that!!
I have been in Louisiana 34 yrs-all my adult life, but they still call me a yankee and I am proud of that, never lost my accent as I am told!! I go home & they ask me where I am from!!! Go figure.
Do you have any suggestions on what I can use to clean Millie’s ear she has some wax & I think it bothers her-she shakes her head sometimes,no smell, I thought vinegar or hydrogen peroxide , but this healthy dog Handbook says both are no-no’s=the book says o use a commercial product, I always try to stat away from them, but if you have a particular product that works, I would appreciate the info.
    Fondly,
    Cheryl

    Pearl,
I forgot to mention, if you can get a copy (on amazon) of the Paleo Dog by Jean Hofve, dvm.
There is a chapter on vaccinations & the immune system. On pg 89 the dr. says 6 months is best because the immune system matures.this chapter alone was worth the price of the book!!

in reply to: Rabies Shot for Puppy (13.5 weeks) #63350 Report Abuse

    Pearl,
My vet said 4 months is ok for rabies, BUT the breeder says 6 months is when they should get it, because the shot works better.
I didn’t do Lepto, I also believe that one should do as few shots as possible at one time, it may mean you have to take Sarah back more to the vet and they may have to order the shots for you. Most of the shots come all in one.. It’s easier on their little bodies
Now I don’t go to dog parks, someone on the site that does may be able to guide you on shots that keep your gal safe when her exposure to other kids is an issue.
hope this helps, she is precious. good luck

    InkedMarie,
Thank you, I was concerned ,she is not well & being 11, I just wanted too make sure this is something that happens when eating THK.
    jakesmom,
If pepper & millie are examples they ADORE THK-THEY KEEP LICKING THE BOWL till it shines.
My Pepper is completely blind, so i can understand her licking, but Millie ,my new puppy does it cause she thinks I will give her more food.
I don’t understand why Aimee said it’s not met the AAFCO standards, I cannot imagine a company saying it does and lying about it-it’s reputation would go down the drain.
Honestly, at this point in Pepper’s life-she likes it, she is able to keep it down her poo is good, what more can I ask for!!

in reply to: dinner mixes #63346 Report Abuse

Question for Group about HK & Poo
Forgive me friends, but, I must ask Pepper has been eating THK now for a few weeks, she is now on the grain free Preference with ground turkey or ground beef & sweet potato what I have noticed is the frequency of her bathroom visits-her stool looks great it’s just that she is going quite frequently & pretty good amts
Is this a normal occurrence when one stops kibble & eats HK?
    Should I be concerned??
My angel loves it, we have tried almost every variety.
Just curious if anyone who does feed or has fed THK had this same issue happen.

Thanks again & sorry for posting at the dinner hr.

    Oh 1 more thing Dori,
I too am from NYC, miss the city a lot , how about you?

in reply to: dinner mixes #63344 Report Abuse

    Dori,
Thank thank you for your input.
My girls esp miss Millie are gulpers-I turn around and her food is gone!!
When I first got her it took her 25 min to eat,now seconds, I had to get her a slow feed bowl.
I thank you for your input on the Turkey necks-I just don’t feel comfortable giving them to her, I am not real interested in RMB either.
If I went raw, it would be commercial raw also, Millie being a schnauzer I have to watch her fats.
She adores the orijen freeze dried-howls while I am making it-jumping dancing!!!
Do you cook the fruits and veggies or do you give your girls raw with that also.
Pepper (until her bad gastric episode) always got raw carrots for a snack, bu tI noticed they came out the same way they went in, so i cook them-i read that since they have a short digestive tract, its hard for them to process the raw veggies.
I did order some Primal raw, so i am anxious to see how millie does.
It is hard to find real commercial raw here,so ordering it is my only option & I don’t know what other companies will ship to me in Louisiana without it costing a fortune.
    Thanks again Dori

    Bobby,
I finally found the post i wanted to reply to,this new format drives me crazy,if I am away from the computer, I forget who I need to reply to -sorry.
You asked if I want to feed raw or cooked, honestly, I don’t know.
I guess I could give Miilie a few raw meals per month, in the hot summer here I don’t think so. The heat here is oppressive.
I have been lightly boiling all meats I give to pepper and now Millie.
I still await the Primal raw from the co.
I saw something on u-tube and they were feeding turkey necks-I thought all poultry bones were risky to feed. Do you think a turkey neck is safe for a little schnauzer to chomp on??
Ideally, I guess if Millie could take it vary the kinds of meals within a week, if not vary weekly,I am very new to this & very OCD (ask Shawna) when the welfare of the fur-kids are concerned.
    I don’t trust myself.

in reply to: dinner mixes #63306 Report Abuse

    Kristen,
I also can’t understand why a website that allows you to design homemade meals would use a synthetic supplement-its counter productive.
I also want to mention no matter what meals I tried to design it was ALWAYS recommended that the diet was not balanced and that I needed t add the BalanceIt, so now I am truly wondering if all the site wants to do is lure one in with the hope of providing the fur-kids homemade meals and zappo selling their products!!!

in reply to: Teeth cleaning- MRI – heart palpitations #63287 Report Abuse

    Liz,
I will give you a list of questions if you want about what to ask for Qtip.
Were you able to call & get her records from that WONDERFUL vet?
I am a little busy this am, but I WILL GET BACK TO YOU WITH A LIST OF QUESTIONS.
    STAY STRONG

in reply to: dinner mixes #63286 Report Abuse

    Aimee,
Please don’t be offended by what I have to say,
I find it odd that you find the majority of the vet diets acceptable.
The list of ingredients reads like a horror show-a lot of these ingredients according to this website are downright dangerous to feed.
Now, that being said, if it came down to (in my case) Pepper’s life to continue only if she were fed a vet diet-well, you can guess the answer -to prove my point I have a case of the Royal Canin hypo. hydrolyzed protein for her just in case, what I am trying now will not work.
I would never put Pepper’s life at risk, just to prove a point.
As for THK, they are very UPPITY, when I called & asked them why they have no grain free potato free mixes, the lady got annoyed at me,as if how do I dare ask them that.
As for the vets getting some kickback, Aimee, I KNOW FOR A FACT THEY DO-A VET IN A WEAK MOMENT TOLD ME SO, that is why he decided not to carry pet food at his clinic.
They earn trips, seminars etc. really it is a common practice.
In the end we all do what we feel is best, that’s all that the fur-kids can ask.

in reply to: dinner mixes #63078 Report Abuse

    Kristen,
If & when you have some time & only if you wouldn’t mind-what ingredients do you use in your chicken & beef meals.
I would like to start doing all homemade meals for my gals
    Thank you.
    Cheryl

in reply to: dinner mixes #63077 Report Abuse

    Bobby,
I wil look at those links to vet schools & contact them, one by one.
In reference to Aimee’s comments, I too thought you had to purchase those home made reciepes-I will have to go back & check, because it was easy-just picking from different lists.
    Thanks again

in reply to: dinner mixes #63010 Report Abuse

    Bobby,
as always thank you again for the info.
Unfortunately, as I live in LA. & take pepper to LSU Vet school I cannot talk to a nutritionist that can intelligently speak about a home cooked diet.
I will look into the other vet schools, I don’t hope if LSU is an example.pepper’s internist a lovely young man admitted to me nutrition is so lacking in all vet schools curriculum, they really are not taught much.
I did read Aimee’s posting and 1 less to dig deeper into.
I am getting out the food processor and cook & puree some veggies, I cook the protein already and stop making myself nuts.
I just want to make sure they are getting a balanced diet -I must just dive in & stop being afraid!

in reply to: Best Freeze Dried Food #63005 Report Abuse

    Mom2Cavs.
I will put it on my weekend research list.
    Wow this list keeps growing.
I think its better if I researched less for the fur-kids and just started cooking all their meals, it’s coming to the point where I am going to do it-if I just felt confident enough I am feeding to meet nutritional needs, i think it’s easier than the endless research of all this foods šŸ™
    Thanks again for your input.
    Cheryl

in reply to: Best Freeze Dried Food #62986 Report Abuse

    Kristin,
Sorry I forgot to answer your question.
I can’t get real commercial raw where I live-so checking out various sites wag.com was the only site that even carried the “real frozen raw” not the freeze dried variety’s.
It did state it comes directly form the manufacturer at checkout.
I don’t think this is something I will do when it gets warmer here-in Louisiana it would be too risky to have raw shipped & to get it overbite would be too cost prohibitive.

in reply to: dinner mixes #62985 Report Abuse

    Kristen,
Yes I saw that I guess they must cater to ‘THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF BEVERLY HILLS” šŸ™‚
They only thing (out of necessity I have been giving Pepper is sweet potato -not crazy about doing it -but it has helped her)I just went to their pg of recipes have you checked that out-the KBPF site -they also have a cooked sample I may try-more investigation needed-you know this is becoming a full-time job lately-not so much for Pepper, but for the new gal Millie @ 6 months I MUST KEEP HER HEALTHY & I AM BECOMING CONVINCED THE LESS SHE EATS KIBBLE THE BETTER OFF SHE WILL BE!!!!
    Thanks for the clarification

in reply to: Teeth cleaning- MRI – heart palpitations #62982 Report Abuse

    Liz,
So glad you posted-I understand people have lives and posting takes time-lots of it,for me weekends work better lately.
Anyway, I feel I have to be honest with you. IMHO RUN DON’T WALK AWAY FROM THIS VET-too many mistakes have been made. i understand they treat Ferrets, but I wouldn’t let them touch Qtip at all, honestly I wouldn’t let them touch a house fly!!!!
Get all blood work, x-rays etc. You paid for them they are yours-don’t take no for an answer!!!
you are now Qtips voice-she can talk for herself-she needs you.
Vets will quote you prices over the phone-Dentals are not cheap, but, more important you want her to survive the dental-if she has an infection in her gums, get her antibiotics first before the dental, no MRI -ultrasound only if needed most females including 4 legged ones have mild heart murmurs -I don’t mean to repeat myself -find out EXACTLY WHAT SHE HAS EKG are ok but in canines like us its a snapshot of when its taken -if it was me & what I learned with my Pepper save your money for the cardiac ultrasound.
YOU MUST GET ALL HER RECENT TEST Results- you should see my file on Pepper-evey test ,anything done I get a copy of.
This vet is a money hungry so & so stay away-do some research find a teaching hospital if its not too far to travel-
you want someone who asks you is Qtip a pet or a member of the family-you get my drift-you want someone with compassion & who cares for them-yes it’s a business but IMHO there motto should be first do no harm & don’t bleed the caretakers of these baby’s
You can ask me anything-if you want my email address, so we can email off DVA-i will give it to you – I will share & try to help yo anyway I can.
    Please keep me posted.

    Jakes Mom,
thank you for the info-it’s on my list to check out

in reply to: dinner mixes #62944 Report Abuse

    Aimee,
Thank you. I wish it was possible to have a discussion w ANY vet on pepper’s nutrition-impossible where I live.
Can’t expect 8 hrs of training at vet school for them to be well versed on home cooking and not being indoctrinated on selling the Vet diets where they get kickbacks, and make money.
People who have access to vets that can speak intelligently about nutrition are really very fortunate!!

in reply to: dinner mixes #62943 Report Abuse

    Susan
Thank’s for the info. Will look into further, just briefly looked at it this am.
Weekends are a better time lately to do in-depth research.
Also am looking into “Balance It”-soo much out there it can get overwhelming and very confusing. Kristen, I agree with you on the supplements.
Kristen, have you checked out “the justfordogs”site?
    What does KBPF stand for??
    thanks again everyone

in reply to: dinner mixes #62882 Report Abuse

    Aimee,
I just read your post on THK & need a pre-mix for my schnauzer as she cannot digest kibble,
I thought THK was the best, but if nutritionally it won’t be adequate for her, can you suggest something better.
I do top it off with lightly cooked ground turkey breast or low fat beef-she seems to be doing ok with keeping the food down. I have tried all in the grain-free line except the beef.
we have been transiting very slowly.
Now I worry she will not be getting the proper nutrient profile if she continues to eat this.
I am not a great fan of canned food, that’s why I thought this was the one.
My other choice is the Royal Canin Vet diet hydrolyzed protein. Urghh.
Freeze dried or raw is not an option due to her other health issues.
thank you in advance for any info you can give me.

in reply to: dinner mixes #62804 Report Abuse

    Kristen,
I did purchase a whole rabbit at whole foods-it was costly and not very meaty-i found believe it or not more fat than I would expect, now I didn’t give my girl the bones due to her health & age, so for you it may be worth it. I was very disappointed.
I posted -YET AGAIN IN THE INCORRECT AREA, I wanted to know if you had tried the
    stella & Chewy’s meal toppers.
I was directed by Bobby dog to SSLL & was disappointed to learn, it won’t be available until later.
have you ever tried it? If so were you pleased with the results?

in reply to: Best Freeze Dried Food #62802 Report Abuse

    Kristen,
What breed(s) do you have? My 6 month old Mini schnauzer was getting 1 Orijen patty for lunch with cooked carrots.
I could never give her more than 1 patty due to the high fat.
I have been giving her the orijen & horizon legacy & Amicus Puppy formulas but when these bags are finished , she will transition to the adult formulas
Thank you for the heads up about Sojos, I guess the HK varieties will be the next rotation I give her.
Have you seen or used the Stella & Chewy’s “MEAL TOPPERS” -it is a freeze dried product and I do intend to email the company about analysis on them -I think it comes in 3 varieties .
Primal frozen was recommended for me to try-the rabbit & venison ,but I am not sure I will be able to get them shipped here in the south.

in reply to: Best Freeze Dried Food #62650 Report Abuse

Kristen-I was having a difficult time dissolving the patty-it was gooey -I had never used a freeze dried product, but I guess I was doing it correctly-just didn’t like the way it looked.
Its funny you mention S & C’s -I was just going to order some-since the fat in the Orijen is too high for my mini schnauzer.
i do apologize I was mixing up freeze dried & dehydrated-i got that straight.
I use Honest Kitchen was going to try the Sojos, but may not for my older gal.

in reply to: Teeth cleaning- MRI – heart palpitations #62361 Report Abuse

    Liz,
It breaks my heart to hear your story,
A few pieces of advice-do you live in a town or city? Is there a veterinary teaching hospital that isn’t too far away?
Why, If you don’t mind me asking and if you know wasn’t an ultrasound suggested 1st an MRI seems like the last step not the first.
In my experience with my schnauzer, when i got her 3 yrs ago her teeth & gums were so bad and infected I cried when I saw them,no one ever cared for them and it was a disaster, I still say to this day 3 yrs later this is why her immune system is so bad. But I am getting off topic.
My Pepper has mild mitral valve prolapse, what I would do is ask to have an ultrasound done find out what grade the murmur is I-IV ( i think it may be grade 1-4 not 5 ) then go from there, ultrasounds are not cheap, but they are less costly and less invasive to Qtips-all they do is shave her tummy a bit, put jelly & pass the thingy(sorry forgot what’s it called) along the heart area. Then & only then with a detailed explanation get an MRI done. I can’t put Pepper under anymore because of her age and her pulmonary hypertension,so I use a product called Oravet that I get on Amazon( I can tell you more about that if you decide not to do the dental) Also ask if a course of antibiotics might help her-to get the infection under control-if she has a bad infection & there is bleeding you don’t want her to get sepsis, or a bad infection circulating through her entire body
I hate to say this but someone wants your money-you must be very forthright and question, question everything-if i told you how many vets I have taken my angel to how many disagreements i have had your jaw would drop.
I look at it like this-I have her for a reason, she came into my life for a reason I am her caretaker ,advocate , guardian & I will fight for her to get the best that is possible.
I shouldn’t say this but vets are in it for the money (most vets are)-they can size a person up in seconds & see who treats there pets as pets or as a fur-kids as a child with 4 legs, and then the bleeding starts. Stay strong.
Please keep me updated, I will offer any help I can, because believe me in the last 3 yrs I feel like I have been through so much with my baby girl.
    Good luck.

in reply to: Best Freeze Dried Food #62310 Report Abuse

    DogFoodie,
I hate to jinx it so far, but her stools are good, I thought they would be like cow pies since the

HK is soft, bit so far so good. And some people who commented on the HK thread mentioned loose stools were a problem with HK, so I always was afraid to try it. But after her last vet visit the only choice I had was a vet brand hypoallergenic food( which i have been fighting not to have her on) I decided to give it one last try, I have been dealing with this since I have had her. She has been on the Mercola digestive enzymes as well as their probotics. I got a sample of the HK perfect Form and if a few small amts. are any indication, I think it works better for her then the Mercola.
And it may be wishful thinking ,but I think her energy is better on just a few meals of the HK. She has lost a bit of weight (which she needed) since taking her off the kibble. And she was on a good kibble Amicus senior

She has been eating cooked sweet potato w cooked organic ground turkey or organic pumpkin puree -i think she is so overjoyed getting a little variety.I am keeping my fingers crossed that the HK will be something she can.
OH I am a schnauzer turn coat for cutting their beards-but hey they must look clean!!

in reply to: Best Freeze Dried Food #62302 Report Abuse

DogFoodie, Thank you for the info. Will do.
I was asking Monica, if there was a particular food I may try for my older schnauzer who has chronic gastritis. Do you have any suggestions??
She is transiting form kibble (no longer able to digest) to Honest Kitchen grain free.
    Thank you

in reply to: Best Freeze Dried Food #62299 Report Abuse

    Bill,
Look into the Horizon Amicus & Legacy lines, their fat profiles are good for kibble, never tried Acana and now don’t think I will.
Pepper my 11 1/2 y.o is on the Honest Kitchen grain free samples, I got all of them to try as well as the base mixes.
I love your idea -you will crack up with mine- I keep the mustaches shorter more terrier like cause the long beards drive me insane( the true schnauzer people will kill me) my Pepper is used to getting her beard cleaned after meals, but, Millie fights me and runs around the house until I catch her.
I forget you are overseas and don’t know if Amazon carries Horizon, but it really is a great kibble in my opinion.

in reply to: Best Freeze Dried Food #62297 Report Abuse

To anyone interested, I just got a reply from Champion Foods about the way their freeze dried Patties dissolve and the recommendation was to microwave the water 30 or 40 sec then mash the patties with a fork . Will try that and see.

in reply to: Best Freeze Dried Food #62294 Report Abuse

    Monica,
I am tempted to try it on my sick 11 1/2 y.o. schnauzer bad gastritis & irritable bowel.
I am just transitioning her to the Honest Kitchen, very slowly, she seems to love it.
I may just try the Dr. Harvey’s is there 1 in particular you could recommend I try for her, a particular type good for IBS/IBD issues?
As I mentioned I got the freeze dried grain free beef for my 6 month old schnauzer.
Pepper has always eaten Amicus Senior grain free kibble soaked, she has never had freeze dried, that’s why I ask what you would try on her first.
    Thank you.

Bill, you are most welcome, I saw your Impressive fur-kid.
As mini schnauzer parents it’s nice to have someone who can relate to the issues inherent with the breed. I got the Oracle on chewy’s.com -I forgot to check Amazon, I paid 49.99 for a 3 lb. bag which to me is VERY EXPENSIVE. But i know since she is 6 months old Sunday, I won’t be feeding that much, just as a rotational topper if i don’t cook(which I always prefer to do for their toppers).
I just want her to get a more varied diet then my 11 1/2 y.o. angel Pepper.
Have you checked out or used Primal or Vital -a lot of posters like it, so I guess I will get that after the oracle.
    A very Happy new year.

these treats are AMAZING! Pricey but worth it.
I found NaturalPetWarehouse.com to have the best prices per bag.

in reply to: Puppy Feeding Schedule with Raw + Kibble #61954 Report Abuse

Thank you theBCnut, I just saw your reply.
You are correct the last thing I want her to be is fat.
Going to 2 meals a day, do you think I should increase the amt. of food per feeding?
She is growing so quickly, I do have her on high quality kibble & freeze dried and cooked, but the girl is always looking to eat. i guess all puppies do that.
I have just returned to the site and am not familiar as to where to post my questions, quite confusing, so forgive me if i am redundant.
    Thank you for your help
    Cheryl

    Thank you Susan,
I WOULD LOVE to have an endoscopy done, but the internist fears putting her under,
She has pulmonary hypertension along with a mild heart murmur.
I truly feel her GI problems stem from an inflammatory condition in her entire body, mainly caused by neglect of her teeth & gums, the bad bacteria hides in her GI tract, she is being treated with everything except the antibiotic, the Reglan seems to be helping with her motility issue.
I MUST FIND a diet for her. Like you, the premium kibble which I have been giving her (soaked) no longer works. If only I could balance the cooked turkey, chicken, bison, with something I could stay away from the hydrolyzed vet diet. I know Rabbit was too rich for her, she vomited that up. I, too, could never rotate foods. Have you every tried the Honest Kitchen grain-free Base Mix topped with a cooked protein? I tried it, she loved it, but threw it up, I was also giving her the kibble, which may have caused the problem. I am thinking of trying the HK again about a TBSP. no kibble of course. I just don’t know what would be the best way to go for her wellbeing. I have been fighting this since I got her 3 years ago.If the vet diet will keep her with me, then I must do it.
I had to stop all her supplements, which worries me greatly.
Thank you very very much for your reply.

    Thank you Neezerfan,
Unfortunately the holistic vet in my area leans more to traditional therapies. So, I don’t go to her.
As for a phone consult with Dr. Becker, I feel given Pepper’s MANY health issues,a phone consult would not do. Pepper would have to be seen by her in person to give an accurate informed diagnosis.
That being said, I may heave to consult her about a low residue diet, because I shiver when the thought of putting her on a vet. diet comes up. I know she can’t survive on sweet potato, pumpkin & ground turkey forever,& I know the premium kibbles no longer are good for her-she can’t digest them.
Even the special coconut treats (dried veggies & dried fruits) she adores -she can’t tolerate any longer, it breaks my heart!!!

This sounds like your talking about my angel pepper. Yesterday was 3 full yrs since I have her. She is 11 and was never cared for. I could bring you to tears but I won’t with what we have been through-such bad teeth and gums, when she was able to undergo a dental 6 teeth just crumbled in the vets hands. Pepper went completely blind in 2 days-a very rare disease calf SARDS, then there was the aspiration phunmenia last yr that almost killed her then the IBS/IBD that i have been fighting with, the melanomas, i could tell you more, but you get the point.
I love her more than I can put into words, she never learned to play, her greatest joy is our am walks & food, the walks had to be curtailed because of arthritis, the food has to be changed because or recent regurgitation and vomiting eposides-I WiLL not give up on her as long as she has SOME quality of life.
sorry to go on & on, but the good news is that Pepper’s melanomas were shaved off no general anesthesia, not saying that would be in your case, but ask if they can do it with a local.
I would stay away from greenies i got a smell free bully stick at Whole foods, there is also a product called ORAVET (you can get it at Amazon) that helps with the gum disease. Pep hates to have anyone touch her teeth(no one ever did it probably) but with some patience she allows this to be applied to the gums.
The reason I say stay away from greenies they are very hard for the fur-kids to digest, Pepper got very sick on them.
I wish you the very best of luck

    Akari 32,
I don’t know (sorry) the breed of your fur-kid, my Pepper is a mini-schauzer that had a mole just like your picture shows. It was on the top of her head and it kept getting bigger as she got older. It also would develop a crust on top and got darker. Long story short, it was a melanoma and she has had a bunch also on her back removed. They would ooze also.
I am surprised your vet hasn’t told you that.
Schnauzers are prone to these, so I am always checking.
Ask your vet if the mole could be a melanoma?
    Good luck!

I have a similar question I have a 5month old female mini schnauzer-I have been feeding her 3x a day -Horizon Legacy Puppy, Orijen Puppy, Amicus Puppy, 1/3 cup am & pm ,noon time 1/4 c w/ lightly cooked carrots & 1tsp coconut flakes.
I have recently cut out the noon kibble & substituted the orijen freeze dried tundra patty-just 1.
My question next month she will turn 6 months-is that when I stop the noon feeding?
She is ALWAYS HUNGRY-SHE WOULD EAT 24/7 -It has been a very long time since I had a puppy and am very afraid of giving her a diet that has a high fat content due to the breeds problems with a high fat diet.
i also forgot to mention that with her kibble she either gets just under an ounce of grass fed beef or chicken lightly cooked. Her weight has almost doubled since I got her at 13 weeks.
No worms etc to account for her very voracious appetite. Or are all puppies constantly wanting to eat???
I have an 11 y.o. female mini schnauzer that has recently had to change from Amicus senior to the honest Kitchen “Kindly” due to her bad digestive issues.
I guess I am just very worried that little Millie will have the same issues as my angel pepper if I don’t get this diet correct from the start.
Thank you very much for any insight and help.
    fonly,
    Cheryl, Pepper & Millie-Belle
