You are correct about the perfect Form, I was confusing it with another product.

Thank you for all your information, I really appreciate it, I will look into the probiotics, i like to have them on hand to give. i used to give them daily to pepper, but in her case it wasn’t a good thing to do
    Thank you again.

    Mom,
The more the merrier, I had booked marked this supplement a long time ago & I think, if memory serves me ,asked Shawna about it and she too wasn’t crazy about it. She prefers the STANDARD PROCESS line of supplements & pepper (my older gal ) was on the various kinds for different issues, I stopped them 2yrs ago when i almost lost my angel to aspiration pneumonia, never started them up again.

I was looking at some website about schnauzers (guess it was a breeders site) & it was a must you had the puppies on this supplement or the health guarantee would be voided_i found that to be interesting & then BC mentioned the same thing-so I just thought MAYBE? my puppy Millie should try it??

How do you like your probotic and do you give it every day? I was using Mercola’ s for a long time & just started the Honest Kitchen’s Perfect Form and like it (at least for now) better. I am always looking for a back up.
i like the ingredients in the Vet Classics chew-where do you purchase that as well as your probiotic- amazon??

    DogFoodie,
Only put the Zymox in her ears twice- then noticed the dark color AFTER the Zymox was applied. It almost seemed like the Zymox brought it all out & changed its color to dark??
Used an Earthbath ear wipe to clean it all out, now they are clean.
But now i will be on alert if I see this dark color again she will most certainly go to the vet for an ear culture-she is grain free so why yeast I don’t know.URGHH

in reply to: Best Home or Commercial Remedy for Ear Wax #64449 Report Abuse

    Hi Everyone,
Just curious -has anyone experienced when using ZYMOX ear cleaner the one with enzymes that the wax turns a dark color?
After using in my puppy’s Millie ears-the wax turned almost black/red, no smell nothing. Just this dark color
Is this to be expected? I don’t understand why a puppy would have so much wax build up in her ears.
    thanks again all

    BC,
Will do. She is not fat, solid but i fear esp with schnauzer females who can put on weight quickly, that if I don’t pay very close attention she will put on the lbs. very quickly.
When the breeder told me she will not be more than 15 lbs at her adult weight I did indeed panic, because at almost 7 months she is 15 lbs,its almost like she has stopped growing length & height wise.
The breeder feeds only Candidae & couldn’t understand why I wasn’t going to feed that-I told the breeder i wanted her to have a more varied diet she replied well she will get fat!!
    Oh well!!!
Millie had a little soft stool on the squash so today only rabbit. I introduced too much too soon with that a big screw-up on my part yet again!! Poor Millie 🙁
When do you suggest that noon feeding should be taken away?? I have read so many different opinions on this, I hadn’t had a puppy since I was 13 ,so you can just imagine how long that has been, that’s why all the questions.
And here’s another-have you ever used the ZYMOX ear cleaner?? the one with enzymes ? If so, did the wax turn a dark color? In Millie’s case all the wax (and she had a lot in my opinion for a puppy) turned a very dark color- & before I panic yet again & take her to the vet, is this normal with this product??
    Thanks BC

    BC,
If you wouldn’t mind I need your input.
Millie my 6 1/2 month old is eating A.M. 1/3 c Orijen Puppy kibble (which is about to go out of the rotation) mixed w Horizon Legacy Puppy (that bag is larger so she will be on that a little longer) as a topper she is getting 1 oz lightly boiled beef.
Noontime: 2-3 Primal Rabbit nuggents w either carrots or cooked squash & zucchini 1-2tbsps.
Suppertime: 1/3 c kibble (same as brkfst) w 1oz boiled chicken.
She does get cocotherapy dried fruit or veggies 2 handfuls
A few times a week she will either a bully stick or a cow ear.
I want to take the noontime feeding out as well as eventually giving her kibble less frequently and adding the honest kitchen in the rotation
She picked up wt. very quickly she is close to what the breeder told me was her adult weight (15lbs).
In your opinion am I feeding her enough? too much?
According to the bags of kibble & that is if she were only eating kibble she should have almost 1 c per day. But since I add the meat as toppers & the raw for lunch, I hesitate to increase the kibble.
    Thanks so much

    BC
    thanks so so much.
I guess the breeders must get some kind of kick-back (i don’t mean that in a bad sounding way) but this was a mini schnauzer breeder and yes her guarantee was also contingent on giving the Nuvet vitamins, she even gave a special code to get a 45% discount.
    Thanks again.
Do you think a puppy that is fed commercial raw, orijen & legacy kibble, cooked meats, poultry & veggies and eventually THK should be on supplements ?
My older gal is on some ,but with this gal at 6 1/2 months should I be giving them so soon?
She grew in the 3 1/2 months that’s she’s been with me and weighs almost 15 lbs-all she wants to do is eat, I hesitate to take the 3rd meal away, but I don’t want her to gain too much weight too quickly.
Thank you always for your input and knowledge

in reply to: No Chicken dog food? #64248 Report Abuse

    Phillip O
Did you happen to ask your vet what the rationale behind not feeding a rotational diet was?
Does he or she eat the same exact thing day in day out their entire lives?
I suspect many may agree or disagree but here goes if you pups stay on the same food day in day out and suddenly develop itchy ears, eyes ,paw licking they will say an allergy has developed and an elimination diet is necessary or even better they will want to prescribe a prescription diet, while visits ,tests etc and you feeling helpless and your wallet gets thinner and thinner.
From most of the reading I have done eating the same food can actually cause problems for some dogs. That’s why offering different proteins different brands is actually beneficial.

I know how overwhelming this site can be,if i may I would suggest you first decide on what TYPE of food you want to feed: Kibble, canned, freeze dried , commercial raw, dehydrated, home cooked, real raw,and then look at the 4-5 star rating within the food,
I feed kibble but I lightly cook a topper of turkey chicken beef to up the protein or you can do kibble with a topper of canned. Kibble w a raw patty. so many varieties. I used to stay on this site most of the night trying to figure out what to try, plea don’t to that.
There are very helpful knowledgeable folks to guide you on this site
    Good luck.

    Oh Dori,
This has been a real nightmare, I wanted to downsize, yard etc, saw this townhouse well didn’t like the cabinets tore them out & found BLACK MOLD -well you can imagine gutted the entire 2 stories to the studs!!! As I said a nightmare that is a sinking well of money!!!

I guess while reading your post you do make sense – why have someone else cook, when I could do the same.

It’s funny I got the Primal Nuggets from Wag.com will have to check on the “Pronto” since it ships from the manufacturer.

I can get the “Vital Essentials” & Nature’s variety Instinct Raw here so that’s good , they also had Nature’s Logic it was on Susan’s list in 2013 but just read the review here and I will pass on that raw brand.

This is another reason I so miss living in a city-the availability of everything.

Well if i can rotate different brands with the lower fat proteins , I guess that would be ok., since you said each protein though the same is just a bit different when you change up the brands.
I am going to call Answers as you suggested along with OC Raw, see if they will ship directly to me. This local feed store cannot get either from there vendor.

You are wonderful, thank you again.
    Have a great weekend

in reply to: Your Most Recommended Dog Treats? #64209 Report Abuse

    Gloria ,
I just noticed your post about the stool, and had the exact same thing with my puppy a mini schnauzer she ate quite a bit of a bully, stick same quality you feed different brand and on our walk yesterday same type of stool color, but this A.M. everything normal.
Had to be the bully stick, so I will not be giving it to her for a few days-I think 1-2 times a week is more than enough.

in reply to: Random Raw Questions #64207 Report Abuse

    Dori,
Please, please forgive me for not replying sooner to your kind post of letting me know the foods in your rotation.
I am in then process of renovating a Townhouse I purchased last May and between that and the girls well i am under a great deal of pressure.
I am trying to get all this in my brain and figure out how to go about the full transitions and rotations to raw and probably Honest Kitchen varieties.
It’s pepper i most worry about, so far it seems Millie can transition easier than pepper.
Concerning Nature’s Variety Raw ( and I don’t mean to sound like a snob) is that a good company-I know you do EXHAUSTIVE research,I just thought since all the big box stores carry it, that it was just a so-so company. AS I guess you can surmise by now, I make it very difficult for myself. If it’s too easy, I always question why??
But your endorsement means a great deal.
I can’t seem to find the primal pronto but will call the company next week.

I know you must be familiar with Susan Thixton.
She provides a “Best Foods list yearly.
Have you ever heard of “Fresh Fetch” or “Frenchie’s Kitchen”Fresh Fetch looks interesting-
these are cooked so you may not be too interested in them, just thought you MAY want to look at them.
Dori, thank you so much again, I sound like a broken record but you are really a very special and lovely person.

    Thank you

in reply to: No Chicken dog food? #64184 Report Abuse

Would you consider dehydrated food like the Honest Kitchen, they have grain free & grain inclusive mixes, also mixes where you add the protein of your choice.
Orijen has a kibble called regional red I think?? it does not contain chicken.
Freeze dried is also something to look at

in reply to: I have a serious problem with my pet not eating #64183 Report Abuse

    Robert,
I would also like to add a dry food that you can order online & have it delivered right to your door.
The name of the company is Horizon Pet Food Co. they are located in Canada
you will want to look at the “AMICUS” line small breed Kibble, good co..
I think Dori mentioned Orijen also small kibble size -a bit higher in fat than Amicus (i don’t know if that is a concern or not) both excellent companies.
    Websites: k9cuisine.com
    petflow.com
I know k9cuisine sells the 5 lb bags-i prefer smaller bags since my girls don’t eat that much-I also ALWAYS top it with lightly cooked meats (i boil) -I forgot to add these are all grain-free kibbles, I don’t know if you want a grain inclusive kibble or not.
I have to agree with Susan a little plain pumpkin is excellent for the tummy or a bit of a cooked sweet potato just maybe 2 tsps. to coax him to check out what’s inside the bowl!
Good luck, i know how you feel I had a Samoyed Nicholas who never left my side when I was sick- He was the best! I wish I knew then, what I have learned now , I didn’t do enough for him, there wasn’t a site like this with such wonderful, knowledgable people to help.

in reply to: Your Most Recommended Dog Treats? #64107 Report Abuse

Anyone interested in bully sticks or car ears check out ” I and Love and You” you can get them on Amazon. That’s the name of the company, From Colorado.
The bully sticks are practically odor-free as are their cow ears. All free range grass fed beef.
I monitor the girls when then eat their bully sticks and when its almost near the end , take them away,i do the same thing with the cow ears.
I have bought many different holistic brands and my older girl would get sick, this brand so far so good!!

in reply to: OC Raw Dog food #64045 Report Abuse

    Cotons mom,
Thanks for the info, I emailed the company & still haven’t gotten a reply.
I guess I will have to try calling out of state stores &see if they will ship to me.
It looks like a good food, doubt I will be able to get it, too bad

in reply to: Random Raw Questions #64044 Report Abuse

    Dori,
would you mind if you could give me some choices for a dehydrated food beside the honest kitchen or in your opinion is that about the best available? I know you mentioned Sojos.
As for commercial raw beside Primal & Vital Essentials any brand that comes to your mind with some lower fat offerings. i don’t think I will be able to get the OC Raw seems very hard to get and they don’t ship to consumers.
I just like to have options for them-I guess there are enough varieties within the same brand, but I want to make sure there diet is balanced overall.
    Thanks so much Dori.
I have so much going on right now, it is so hard for me to devote the time I really need to research all the various brands.
I so appreciate all the information you have given me.

in reply to: Random Raw Questions #64028 Report Abuse

    Good Morning Dori,
Yes, ideally having both girls on the commercial raw & dehydrated (i think) would be a good mix & as you say balance out in the end.
    Both are quite expensive
I don’t think I am imagining this, but since pepper is no longer eating any kibble,at times she seems to have more energy, more vitality then when she was on the Amicus.
I don’t know, I know it won’t stop the clock for her, so I am just thankful for any tiny improvements she gains from changing her diet.
    You have a great day.

in reply to: Best Home or Commercial Remedy for Ear Wax #64027 Report Abuse

    Ivchister,
The only thing i can add to this discussion would be (I have to say it) a veterinary diet, I looked at Royal Canin Hypoallergenic Hydrolyzed Protein It is available in both wet and dry versions, if what you are currently feeding does not work.
You can get it online with a prescription from your vet,
I do hope what you are feeding works.
    Best of luck

in reply to: Random Raw Questions #63974 Report Abuse

    Dori,
I had wanted to post to you sooner, but was waiting.
OMG Dori, I am amazed, Millie eats it so fast its incredibly.
Pepper ADORES it she got 1 whole nugget today & it was gone in a second.
Oh, if pepper can continue to tolerate raw, at least I could rotate every few weeks with the raw and the Honest Kitchen.
I am going to take the freeze dried out for Millie due to the high fat and if they can both tolerate the raw, who could ask for more, at least for my kids.
Thank you Dori sincerely for giving me a push.

Shawna if you peek in I am so sorry for not listening to you yrs ago, I never knew you could buy commercial raw-raw to me meant raw meat poultry etc, and i just couldn’t risk giving it to Pepper.

I hadn’t heard back from OC raw-i emailed the company, I can get Vital Essentials ordered for me locally, so I know I can interchange that with the Primal nuggets.

I would like to get millie off Kibble even though I am feeding her Orijen & Horizon.
I know you told me and forgive me for asking again, in your rotation you feed raw & dehydrated, I think?? I remember you saying you don’t feed kibble of any kind, i hope i am correct in saying this.
Aimee worried me a bit especially in Millie’s case that the Honest Kitchen would need be a complete meal to feed her during her growing stage, I guess that’s why I keep the kibble in.
I add a bit of lightly cooked meat or poultry & just feed a little less of the HK mix to Pepper & that’s using there protein inclusive mixes, I guess i could do the same for Millie.
I am not confident enough to just transition Millie to HK now, so far so good with the raw, and like you told me safer to stay on 1 new food for awhile, which I am doing.
    Thank you so much again.
    You take care.

    Mabel,
I am a bit confused also. Did you mean that a vet tech should check their teeth once monthly?? That could cost a great deal. I am sure you don’t mean a full dental monthly where they are put under anesthetic.

    Liz,
Hadn’t hear from you I do hope Qtips is doing o.k.
    Post something if you can

in reply to: OC Raw Dog food #63914 Report Abuse

Can anyone tell me if they can get this online??
I have contacted the company to see if they will ship directly to me, but haven’t heard from them.
Seems very very difficult to find.

in reply to: Random Raw Questions #63825 Report Abuse

Dori, have you heard of or ever fed OC raw?
It seems like a good for-may be hard to find though.
I was curious, since I am trying to get some back up brands to have on hand.
I noticed the VE does not contain any veggies or fruits like the Primal yet it is a complete & balanced product correct?
It’s funny Shawna had tried years ago to get me to transition pepper to raw, and I just couldn’t do it, now I just hope she tolerates it so she can go all raw!!!

in reply to: Random Raw Questions #63801 Report Abuse

    Hi again Dori,
Just went to petfooddirect thank you .
Quick question have you tried or do you know the difference (beside size?) of the Primal Pronto & the primal Raw?
it looks like the rabbit & venison have about the lowest fats, I could maybe try the chicken, but for now I think I have to stay with the lowest fat profile versions.

in reply to: Random Raw Questions #63798 Report Abuse

    Hi Dori,
Well, i took a deep breadth a gave pepper a tiny bit of the raw rabbit she gobbled it up -picked up her head as if to say that’s all I get??
Now I wait to see how she does-digestive wise. Fingers & toes crossed
I went to a local feed store and they can get the VE raw for me-can you guide me in the varieties that are not too high in fat-I guess i should stay away from beef.
    Thank you

in reply to: Random Raw Questions #63768 Report Abuse

    Dori,
I did look up the vital essentials -I saw the freeze dried tripe treats, that’s the way I will go on that issue.
I wish I could get the VE raw, but there isn’t any websites that sell it. So if i want to feed commercial raw it will have to be Primal because Wag.com is the only place that sells it-I don’t live in an area that has small pet stores that sells the higher end foods, so Primal it has to be.
For freeze-dried (if you feed that) id you ever try the Vital Essentials?
I so miss not living in a city that has access to everything!!
Millie did well with the raw you were correct-I might give Pepper a little tiny taste with her sweet potato for lunch.
    I will report back later.
    Have a great day!
I know I keep saying this but thanks so much for everything

in reply to: Tripe or Trippett dry #63713 Report Abuse

    Joanne,
I am in the US -so no luck for us down here yet.

    DF,
I thought I might have missed some sites that had it, all sites only showed the canned.
I agree, seem a possible candidate for my Millie, i don’t think I have the stomach to open the canned variety & their breadth after eating it must be bad.

in reply to: Random Raw Questions #63695 Report Abuse

    Dori,
Your such a great wealth of knowledge, my little & i mean little experience with foods rotation is basically kibble with a lightly cooked topper of different proteins. I never fed canned.
i am sorry i am picking your brain so much, i really don’t know how to go about all this and then add in my fear well you can guess-
I used to feed Pepper a sardine every day until she couldn’t handle them, then I gave her fish oil-i would puncture a pill, she got beta glucan for her immune system coq10 for her heart 3x a week a Vit C, folic acid also-all human supplements just scaled down to her wt.
now with Millie I don’t want to overload her at this point because she is a puppy, i had planned to introduce the sardines a few times a week soon I think she needs the omega 3.
You know even though millie is eating a high quality kibble Orijen, Horizon legacy, I am starting to think she needs to get away from all kibble.
I have noticed,( funny that you mentioned this )Pepper’s stool has no smell since she has been eating THK, yet Millie’s does & I can only attribute it to the kibble.
I give Millie both the Orijen & Legacy mixed and she is ok with that.
I know she is ok with the orijen freeze dried (that’s what she gets for lunch alone)
I guess I made the mistake of giving her the HK with her kibble & chicken at nite.
I should have introduced THK alone with her protein as a topper.
Dori I will get this, i won’t be bothering you for ever, I am a Leo ,and we are perfectionists (that’s why I suffer from migraines) so i have to get this correct-poor Millie to have me for a mom 🙁
I did create a new topic on Puppy’s and supplements-i just haven’t had a puppy in ages & according to Millie’s breeder she needs nothing ( i don’t agree) but don’t want to go overboard.
I realize you don’t feed kibble but i saw a post where tripe is now made into kibble-petkind.com, I wanted your opinion, I have read here a lot of posters feed canned tripe-that it is good for them, I see that more of the large breed posters feed it, I just didn’t know if breeds like schnauzers would benefit. After all Pepper & Millie are not what you would call “working dogs’ Pep is in retirement & Millie is unemployed

in reply to: Tripe or Trippett dry #63692 Report Abuse

    Joanne,
Can i ask where you located the dry version?
Can’t seem to locate it on some of the online sites.
I aways heard from members on this site how good & stinky the canned tripe was for the kids. never could bring myself to get a can, I may for my puppy, but sounds like the dry may work better.
    Thank you.

Thank you again DF for kindly providing the link to the website

in reply to: Random Raw Questions #63691 Report Abuse

    Oh Dori,
Thank you for your loving, kind thoughts. Yes we do go on but the mind never forgets and the heart hurts.
Yes, At night we have a routine, pepper & now Millie are in bed we watch tv read -its funny watching Millie navigate her position, Queen Pep has her own pillow & Millie side steps it, but is always trying to put her paw or face on the pillow, i got her her own pillow of course, and she wanted nothing to do with it. Only pepper’s, so now she just lays in my arms, its so sweet-they are so adorable!
I think Pep will be ok with the pro den , I can ask the vet, but if its like its always been she will have never heard of it and will want me to buy something she sells.
Millie INHALED the rabbit, i may have done a no-no but i gave her 2 nuggets for lunch- gone in a matter of 2 seconds.
I did notice her poo a little soft on our walls just now, but, I think that due to me giving her a few TBSP of THK w her dinner.
I will hold off on that tonite, since she just got the real raw today.
I don’t want her system to go into overdrive.
She also loves THK. At least I know I can put that into her rotation-I guess the hard/new part for me will be figuring out her rotation-weekly or daily, it may be easier/better for her to rotate on a weekly basis instead of at each of her meals, this is so new to me with pepper I never had this luxury.
Pepper is still going quite a bit,I guess it may take weeks for her to adjust to THK.
I know Pepper smelled the rabbit -she walked over to Miilie’s bowl,oh Dori I wanted to give her a taste, but am so scared she would have a negative reaction.
In your opinion given her age (11 1/2 ) & the fact she never has eaten raw & her gastritis would you give her a taste ,I know or I should say I think Shawna gives her audrey some raw & she is the kid that has kidney issues.
I am such a wreck when it comes to Pepper & giving her something entirely new.
Oh well I can obsess on that question for a while 😉
Thanks again for your continued support

Dori, I am very sorry on your loss, I too, lost a son, & life ws /will never be the same, I guess my fur-kids got me so worked up because of that.
    Thank you again.

    Good AM,
I have been reading the posts, i guess you all are talking about the ProDen..,
    Dori,
Pepper is hypothyroid & is on medication , & I know from being hypothyroid myself iodine consumption has to be watched, I ordered the pro den already, I guess it will be o.k to try, I am going to start on the lower end (as I always do with her because of all her issues)-I hope it doesn’t affect her thyroid, i will wait & since she is due for her yearly thyroid test I will see.
I have a question bout the primal raw, I defrosted a few of the nuggets last nite, do you just feed them cold directly from the frig. or do you zap them in the microwave for a few seconds?
This is the big day at lunch i will give Millie 1 nugget instead of the orijen freeze-dried.
Thanks as always for all the help!!

    Weezerweeks,
I always put cotton in pepper’s ears before a bath, don’t know if that’s ok, but it helps-just remember to take it out & don’t push the cotton in too deep.
My puppy Millie shakes her head, I ordered some zymox w/enzymes to see if it helps.
i got the earth bath ear wipes & after their baths I use that, i would love to dig in,but wouldn’t dare.

    IvanaR,
What do you mean gastro sensitive? Does she eat a grain free diet? Is she sensitive to certain proteins& or grains that you are aware of?
Did your vet culture the ear discharge to see what it was exactly(yeast, fungal, some other infection)?
Do you think the ear discharge is diet related? Have you changed foods recently and this happened? Have you been feeding the same food(s)? I know lots of questions
Does the food have to be dry? If so, have you ever tried soaking the kibble in warm water before feeding? softer foods might be easier on the stomach.

    Hi Kelly,
My 11 1/2 y.o. mini schnauzer has similar issues -bad bouts of gastritis IBD/IBS just suffered a bad bout in December.
I came to the conclusion that she can no longer process kibble any kind-she was on the Amicus Grain-free Senior, did very well on it. But as they say things change
But it seemed every so often the problems reappeared.
In December after every single test was given except an endoscopy -i changed her to lightly cooked ground turkey breast with canned organic pumpkin -then switched from the pumpkin to sweet potato, nothing else for 3-4 weeks ,now your kid may have an infection have you had her stool tested to rule out any infection?
Now I was told she should dry a vet diet-hydrolozed protein-she she was also vomiting and reguritating. I choose to try something else and if that didn’t work ,well to go ahead & try what the vet recommended.
She is on The honest Kitchen now a rehydrated food i buy her grain free, they have various types.
my thoughts are stop the rice-rice can cause inflammation, and she has an inflammatory process occurring with the colitis episode.
Dr. karen Becker has some excellent articles just on this subject-its on the Mercola.com website.
If you can buy some organic canned PLAIN PUMPKIN -stop the kibble completely. You might also offer her a cooked sweet potato, with the ground turkey. I know this may sound odd, but pepper does better on Ground turkey ,chicken & beef than she did on lightly boiled chicken breast. Maybe try a ground version of the turkey or chicken. She could have developed an allergy to egg or even the chicken. You might want to try her on a novel protein,a protein that she never ate, I bought a rabbit at Whole foods & boiled it for her. Her tummy needs about 3-4 weeks of rest, that’s why I say the soft low residue foods-no treats nothing that cause cause the inflammation to linger.
I just personally think, that as they get older the kibble is just too hard on them, and I soaked her kibble to make it easier. When they have this inflammatory disease, I think they need a softer diet.
There are some canned foods also that you may want to try, on that I really don’t know, i have never fed canned. I know people have good things to say about WERUVA & other people can guide you on that.
I hope some of this helps you, I will be glad to help further if you have any more questions.
    Good Luck
    Fondly,
    Cheryl
I see you provided your email I will email you the site to Dr. becker and all you have to do is put in the search IBD/IBS

    Hi Dori,
It’s funny about feeding raw, & what the term implies.
The orijen freeze dried, I just opened & crushed & gave her, yet the thought of opening commercial raw freaks me out, i keep asking should i wait should i introduce it after this bag of Orijen is finished? Very silly I know.
These babies are my kids, since I have no children, I worry so-some may not understand, but, I feel you do.
The breeder called me & told me she just had another litter with 4 females-do I want another, I am so tempted to say yes to give Millie a pal her own age,but fear it would be way too much for pepper to handle, since getting Millie in Oct., its been hard on Pepper her age & add the blindness, I keep going back & forth.
Anyway, I digress, oh yes I agree with you I never never introduce anything at night, believe it or not, i don’t even like introducing anything over the weekend, when the vets are off.
I dislike the ER here, cost a fortune of money & not very nice.
I just ordered the Pro Den on Amazon, i will try it on pepper.
I am hoping to cut down on pepper’s dose of reglan next week since she seems to be ok on the Honest Kitchen-she had the turkey this am & I upped the protein with some beef-made her bowl so shiny almost didn’t have to clean it!!!
    you have good weekend

    Dori,
I got the primal rabbit & Venison -I forgot (I am so sorry ) if it was Susan or Sandy or someone else that mentioned these would be a lower fat option to try for MILLIE since fat is a concern .
Well I am you way back then, I am so worried I don’t want the bags to have freezer burn before I use it – I will be like you just open the bag & put a few in the refrigerator
I didn’t realize the dental product is something you put on their food. I know you have checked out the ingredients & assume they are ok
Well if Kristen goes MIA – we will have to spread out to find her.
    Thank you again
I will certainly let you know when I open that 1st bag of primal

    Pugmomsandy,
Yes I do add water to the patty – & it becomes mushy I add a few cooked carrots . Does it matter that I rehydrate the patty?
I am so nervous to feed raw – but if it is good for MILLIE it’s got to be good for me.

Thank you for the plaque info
I have a spray called denta sure but pepper doesn’t like something sprayed in her mouth so I put it on a gauze pad works just so so

    Thank you as always Kristen,
I agree never did introduce anything at night –
    Good advice
Please don’t opt out of this thread
I will have to post on every thread to find you 😉

    Commercial Raw Feeders,
    I could use some help.
Just got some primal Raw for my puppy Millie.
I took a big girl breadth , my questions how do i go about introducing this into Millie’s diet?
Give a tiny amt. alone? I still feed her 3x a day-her noon meal is an orijen freeze dried patty-do u think I should switch w the primal?
Can she eat the primal in her regular bowl or should I get her another stainless bowl?
I am sorry if I sound a bit “out there” have never ever done this-just worried about Millie
    Thanks all in advance.

    pugmomsandy,
do you order that ProDen Plaque Off on line?
If it helps even a little for Pepper that would be great, she has terrible plaque & she is too old to undergo a dental. I use oravet for her gums, but that plaque is almost impossible to get a handle on.
She has never ( I guess) had any dental care,so brushing her teeth is a challenge & at 11 y.o. she is not willing to have my hands in her mouth too long.
    Thank you

    Dori & KristenC
I am so sorry this thread took a turn like this-esp since I just recently started posting again (unfortunately this is exactly why I took a long break from posting on this site-happened before)
I too, feed the complete mixes and the grain-free base mixes yes only for a few weeks, but believe me if any fur-kid would have visible food coming out,it would be pepper, & so far, I agree with you Dori thank god I see nothing-I am amazed. Not to repeat myself ,but, pepper loves the food.
I probably will only offer it to Millie as a topper since she is a puppy.
I,too hope we can all chat on another thread.
I just got the Primal Raw-HELP, I got the surgical gloves out, should I feed Millie in a different bowl then she gets her other food?? Please tell me what thread to find you gals on! how do I introduce it to millie-so many questions so much stress 🙁

    DogFoodie,
I have to agree with Dori, I in no way used the term lightly, I too, am a bit OCD.
I know that there are people that cannot function with this disorder.
    It is debilitating condition.
I meant no disrespect to anyone that suffers from it.

    Thank you Dori,
Oh yes I would never use Q-tips and yes nervous nelly me if it continues we will be at the vet next week. Ordered the 21st century & the Zymox-I know OCD. her ears don’t smell, I am always smelling their ears, my god I check them every day, sometimes I laugh at myself.

    Aimee,
You will have to give me a few days to digest all that you posted, some comments I am still shaking my head about.
You are an intelligent well read well researched person, yet some comments just don’t make sense.
I am so curious (yet it isn’t my business) to know why you have such an axe to grind with the Honest Kitchen, yet vet diets are o.k.
You don’t think offering vet clinics trips kickbacks?? Where I come from that is a kickback, plain & simple.
Food isn’t an income source, its a WINDFALL to a vet practice its a cha-ching, do you think posters here are the average pet parent? Let me tell you they are not. you know that, you take the time to answer & help people, yet you think the veterinary profession is above reproach. If I am making wrong assumptions, I am sorry. Your sister’s clients may be the exception, but, they may be also better at hiding money & telling your sister only what they want her to know. Sorry if that sounds harsh. You may call me bitter & yes you would be correct-those incompetent **** BLED YES BLED ME,because they saw how much I loved my angel & that I would try to move heaven & earth to save her-Aimee how would you like to be told your fur kid had cancer only to be told by the head of the reproduction dept @ LSU Veterinary School she had her period!!!!! I didn’t know wether to laugh or cry, I called the idiot & told him he needs to go back to school !! I could go on & on, I have no respect for any of them. It’s money money money plain & simple! Yes there are some god vets, but those are rare, I have found only one & he is getting ready to retire
Don’t you think it’s easier to take what these vets say buy the crap pour it in the dish & not even look at the ingredients? People on this site spend hrs, days ,weeks searching for alternatives.
It’s the same with us people get a script from the dr. & on your way, don’t exercise don’t change the way you eat, just take a pill.
I will continue this but the fur-kids want to eat, I must comply

    DogFoodie,
you are so sweet you even give me the ink. thanks so much.
How do I get pepper’s & Millie’s photo to appear instead of that blob that appears-their photo appears in comments section but not here,I can’t get that avatar to change, is there a trick I am too dense to see. 🙁

in reply to: Best Home or Commercial Remedy for Ear Wax #63418 Report Abuse

    DogFoodie,
its white not brown-i looked at the zymox. Dori mentioned Clean Ear by 21st century.
I just don’t want it to build up.
    Thanks all very very much

in reply to: dinner mixes #63411 Report Abuse

    Dori,
They have never had a grain inclusive diet-always fed Pepper grain free.Millie too
Believe me I am so nuts, I see a little wax I go crazy.
Millie is the puppy and she is on the freeze dried raw & then the commercial raw.
Pepper the 11 1/2 y.o. is on the HK with cooked meats or turkey.
I am to much of a scared cat to put pepper on freeze dried or actual commercial raw due to its high fat content-I just think her system couldn’t handle the high fat-She is the 1 with IBD/IBS gastritis issues.
They have never had an oatmeal based shampoo either.
Schnauzers are known to be highly allergic to a great many things. When I first got Pepper 3 yrs ago ,I would cure 1 thing and then a noter thing would pop up.
    Thanks for the info.
The girls are driving me crazy no walks today 20 degrees its just warmed up to 30 pepper hasn’t stopped walking around crying.
    Stay warm
