I bought a German Shepherd puppy in January from a breeder who used Kirkland dogfood for years, but she recently quit because she said some dogs in her area had died after eating it. I have never used it, but be careful and do your research!
Carol WMemberCould you possibly check out Lean Cuts canned dog food (Canada)? It’s a reasonably priced canned food that seems clean with healthy ingredients, and most dogs are crazy about it. I would really, really, like to know if it’s as good/healthy as it’s supposed to be. I sure hope so!
Carol WMemberHi. I recently bought a German Shepherd puppy that I’ve had on a high quality brand of puppy food, but just the other day, I was told by a professional handler that with large breeds, that’s not always a good thing. The puppy foods usually contain high percentages of protein that can cause problems with bone development happening too fast. She advised me to switch to a good adult brand to prevent this from happening. Just something to consider, especially with a large breed like a Mastiff.
Carol WMemberI agree we need to be concerned about this. My dog gets only fresh wild caught salmon fillets; the same that I eat, and canned that is also wild caught. Another thing with the manufactured foods is that they add leftover garbage and try to pass it off as lovely salmon fillet, chicken breast, etc.. It can be costly, but I have lost 2 beloved German Shepherds to cancer, and I’m doing everything I can to prevent it happening again with my new pup. I have only one dog at a time, so that helps with the cost.
Carol WMemberSweet potato (my pup loves it), salmon, eggs. I’ve been trying to eat clean lately to help reduce inflammation due to arthritis, and it’s actually working, so I try to give my pup whatever high quality food I’m cooking for myself and keeping the actual dogfood/kibble to a minimum. I always check, of course, to make sure it’s ok for dogs.
Carol WMemberHi. I’m new here, so I hope I haven’t jumped in in the wrong place, but I also have a question about healthy dog treats. I’ve fed beef Rollover as a treat for years, but every once in a while I notice a chemical smell coming from it, almost like gasoline. Obviously, this can’t be a good thing!!! Does anyone have experience with Rollover? It has a 3 star rating in the reviews section of this website, but as I said – the “gasoline” odor has to be a very bad sign!!
