InkedMarie- what I mean by batch his I made ground turkey with veggies and sweet potato and before I measured and bagged my batch of food I cracked an egg or two then bagged. I don’t know if I was suppose to do it that way. I put them in the fridge but idk if they will still be good for couple days like that with the raw eggs?

I feed my baby girl a whole can of sardines in water twice a week. I’m new to all this so I don’t know if that is over doing it or under. She loves it though.

Anon101- lab work was good πŸ™‚ the doctor was very pleased by her looks for her age and said hopefully his dog would look like her. Besides her shedding she has always shed but for the longest time I gave her Pedigree πŸ™
I has been on good quality kibble with good homemade food and I plan on doing the same for my newest member Snoopy πŸ™‚
I believe it’s her age and also I just need to continue giving her fish oil and coconut oil and eggs. Also, I thought I read giving the pills just like that is not good???

anon- Yes, she gets a lot of water so she is good on that. I have some salmon pills but I hate to pop it cause it gets everywhere. I don’t really think one pill would help her though πŸ™

Thank you both for the suggestions. Let me take one thing back I have owned a chihuahua but he wasn’t as small as this one lol. I’m very curious how big he will get but anyways, He is doing great with the whole potty training. He goes on the pad every time πŸ™‚
I don’t really see him drink water so that is a little bit of concern for me. When I mixed water with his food he seemed to have more softer runny poo vs when I just feed him canned (wet) food he has solid poo. Other than so 1/4 cup a day so if I am feeding him 4 times a day how much would I give then, i’m so not good with measurements.

Acroyali, blood sugar droppings? I’ve never experienced that with any of my dogs nor my chihuahua nor heard any of my family members have had that experience. What are the signs? lethargic? vomiting? diarrhea?

    Thank you all!!!

    Crazy4cats and Rusty,

Thank you both so much. I’m like super excited for her checkup tomorrow to see how much she weighs now since she was previously weighing in at 70#. I also, got a list of things to ask the vet to see if she can spread some light of the exact amount and calories based on her current weight and depending on her weight if she needs to lose some or gain or remain the same. referring to not having to add toppers as some call it I guess in order to feed more homemade I have to find out tomorrow how much I should be feeding her exactly then I can add more homemade then dry. Right now I am feeding her 1c am/pm dry kibble and I believe 1/2c am/pm homemade. So hopefully I find out more and keep you guys updated. I like the whole “Fish Friday”. She doesn’t like raw and she has been very gassy lately haha I did make coconut oil w/ blueberries and sweet potato treats. It’s coming from something lol. She does shed a lot a lot so I’m also trying to make her coat shiny πŸ™‚

I believe I got the wild caught Salmon. I have a check up for my gal Thursday to get a better idea on her weight now, exact measurements I should be feeding her vs what I am feeding her now(kibble and homemade). I do have a can of sardines I don’t know how many ounces it is though. I made 1 salmon and topped it with her kibble which was a cup for her dinner. I’m still trying to figure this all out and hopefully the vet can put some light to all this. I have a good quality kibble (chicken Soup for the Soul Dog Food) that the first couple ingredients are meat. However I have been reading a lot and a lot of people said on their blog, post etc that since your kibble is good you don’t need to add much to it. You can vegetables with the kibble, of cottage cheese or eggs, or just more meat etc. So I want to make sure what I am and will be doing is correct.

    Thank you

She drinks a lot of water πŸ™‚ and I’ve been feeding her Chicken Soup for the Soul Dog Food half and half homemade food (Chicken, veggies, small sweet potato and brown rice). I also made some coconut and blueberry frozen treats for her last night.

Well she isn’t in pain though I was just thinking to add just for the long run since she is a senior and slower now. She happen to sprain her leg twice and vet gave me pain meds and anti-inflammatory meds and she got better. But I don’t know i’m just being that MOM trying to prevent anything. lol

PITLUV- My dog isn’t picky and she is pretty tolerable to mostly everything she has tried in her whole life besides RAW. Home cook she has ate and looooves home cook food like chicken, cheese, any meat. Veggies not RAW she will only eat when mixed and soft. It’s mostly be being very cautious. Also, I don’t want to over feed her as I want her to lose some pounds. However, this is the first time she will be eating quality food not Pedigree with home cook meals consistency but I already know she will not have any type of problem with the home cook food lol. I think i’m just overthinking everything and being very overly cautious. Now i’m sticking with a set measurement as before with Pedigree I would just feed her with this one cup I had and half a can food of Pedigree wet food. So all and all this route i’m taking has to be better than before. I will do the one cup of dry morning and night and 1/4 of home cook?? or 1/2 cup of dry and 1 cup of home cook?

Susan- thank you so much!! I have been feeding 1 cup of kibble (Just 6 Rachael Ray) and 1/4 of Fresh Pet wet food. I will be transitioning her to the kibble I have mentioned above which I doubt will be any problem as mu baby girl is no picky what so ever especially if real food is involved lol. So I should do 1/2 cup of dry(kibble) and 1/4 of homemade and see how that goes. I feel like even the amount I do now she seems always hungry but then again she loves food so if I would feed her all day she would eat lol

PITLUV- you seem to know alot. I was thinking on top of my quality dry food I want to go with chicken, veggies etc mixed with. However, I do not want to over feed her so i do not know if that is a good idea..The food shows first few ingredient as chicken, turkey, chicken mean and then turkey meal so should I even feed meat on top of that. i was thinking making chicken, carrots, green beans, sweet potato here and there and spinach in crockpot and store in baggies. also feed salmon and/or sardines with something on top of the dry food…what do you suggest with dry and homemade food together???

    I stay in Arizona.
I also found where some places that sell them πŸ™‚
I also came across another brand called Chicken Soup for the Soul dog food (weird) but I just happen to look up reviews on alot of sites and alot of good reviews. Rated good and good ingredients so I’m really thinking maybe trying that one. A place has a sale 15% off on that brand that is not far from me…hmmmm I think so

PitLuv-I so would just looooooove Pedigree to hope on bored to the more healthy natural side..like you said if they would get ride of some stuff. I will look into what store would sell those brands. I’m starting not to look at star rating but more on reviews but mostly on ingredients. She just healthy and fluffy so all is good so far.

Yeah my pit has been very good on other food before but always just stuck with pedigree. I’m just hesitant and scared to switch to something that may cause her harm πŸ™
I looked at Whole earth Farms food which everything looks good on her as rate and ingredients but looking at reviews a lot of peoples dogs started getting sick. ugh this is so stressful makes me want to just stick with pedigree cause I know she eats it but I want better food. So far so good with RR Just 6 but rated a 3 I think but I give her Freshpet wet dog food as well which is rated good. I want to stick with fresh pet but trying to figure out a decent dry food with good reviews and good ingredients but affordable..Am I asking for to much lol

    Hi Pitluv-

Previously I was feeding her and had since she was a pup Pedigree (I know GARBAGE) but currently she is eating Rachael Ray Just 6 and FreshPet wet food both got at Walmart. She looooves both she did however threw up once but nothing else. She is herself and she has no health issues last blood work was good. She did weigh in at 70 pounds though but to me she doesn’t seem fat…hmmm
she walks slower of course but still loves to play, walk and just get a lot of love nothing major but I want her to live a more healthy longer life. I’m basically new at this natural stuff and portion size for her weight and age. I usually just feed a mug size dry food and 1/4 of wet. I want a good brand with real ingredients but affordable for a decent pound bag. I’m so scared after non stop searching and reading reviews to even try with how many dogs get sick and/or die of certain foods. Do you have any suggestions on brands to look more into? I searched about Authority, Nutro, Wellness Core, Kirkland Mature Dog, and Pure balance.
