    Hi Tom,
I am unsure about the Hill’s Prescription and your vet (mine always prefers Royal Canin).
Just say that what you have is working and has been for awhile and you don’t want to change what’s working. Tell her thanks but you don’t want to mess with a system that is working.

    Hey Dori!
Gas has always been an issue with Luci. I know this is common with older dogs and was with my last senior beagle. However, Friday night was terrible! I did not even think about Luci having gas pains!! I guess I was worried about her being so frantic, which could be due to pain. DUH!!
Thank you so much! Will discuss with Jan, her vet, about the Gas-X and most definetly keep you posted!
    Thanks again!

    Hi Dori!
First, thanks so much for responding!
Urine and stools were normal. Did not appear to me in pain, just very frantic, almost panicky. She had just ate at 5pm (this happened at 610pm) and had her normal intake of water. Her food has no Rosemary. Now that you mention it, she was very, very gassy that night. More the usually to where we had to roll the windows down to get to the ER Vet.
The ER Vet thinks she was having a seizure but I have seen her seizures and am a nurse with 25+ yrs of experience and I don’t believe this was a seizure.
Waiting to discuss with her primary vet. She has an appt. This week full a panel of blood work since its time for a yearly exam and because we are monitoring her kidneys.
Dori, why did you ask about her being gassy? Luci had gastric bloat last April. Curious about what you are thinking!
    Thanks Dori!!

If the vet was suggesting a stomach tack, as mentioned above, due to a gas retention issue, I would recommend the surgery, though it is not a 100% prevention of gastric bloating. It is often recommended for dogs who have presented with symptoms of gastric bloat. Gastric bloat can be deadly and progress very rapidly. My beagle almost died last April from gastric bloat and most likely would have if I had stayed overnight at the hospital with a family member. My mom and her husband had no clue as to what was going on my my beagle. 20+ years as nurse told something was wrong. By time she got to the emergency vet, she was critical. This is a very serious condition!!
As for feeding, I recommend slo-feeder bowls. They make the dogs really pause while they are eating.
Best of luck my friend! Hope your daughter’s pup is ok!

Increased urination could be a number of things;however, with an older dog you need to be concerned about the early signs of renal disease/renal failure. The on,y symptom my almost 14yo beagle had was increased urination. Not large amounts; just additional voiding then frequent little voids. Just FYI.

    Hi Abby,
I have a rescue beagle ( approximate age 11 1/5 to 12 yrs old) that has many of the same issues as your dog (submissive peeing, cowering, separation anxiety, etc.). She had several bouts of diarrhea and stools with consistency of soft serve stools. Fecal stool samples were negative. The only thing she responded to was home cooked chicken and rice but still had the soft served stools. We tried salmon and sweet potato (bad diarrhea) and Royal Canin Sensitive Diet (still diarrhea). Finally did the Royal Canin Gastro-Intestinal High Fiber Response Diet. Now she normal stools. She gets about 3 small carrots a day so her stools don’t get so hard. Also, her eye drainage has almost stopped. It cost about $36 for an 8.8 lb bag. She is a much happier pup! Hope this helps!
