I’m so sorry haleycookie , I seem to have offended you,
maybe the dog who got cancer could not handle high protein foods, I just thought I would pass along the information
because I found it so interesting ,

Yes the ground bone is likely the cause of hard poop problems
I got caught up in the idea of rotating foods & raw foods for dogs, this practice is written about on a few forums I’ve read,
it doesn’t seem to agree with my dogs digestion

Maybe large dogs can cope with this style of diet better than toy breeds ?

We went for a Vet check-up, both dogs are healthy & perfect weight, So happy with that outcome,
When I discussed what the feeding plan I had been trying was, the Vet just said ” oh dear, PLEASE stick with Royal Canin”

I was talking with a lady on our walk, about her dogs & dog food
Her last dog was fed Orijen, Wellness, Acana, all very high protein foods, & died of cancer at age 5 years old!

Now with her new pup, she is feeding Pro plan as her Vet has suggested & hopes the pup has a much longer lifespan

    Wow, this is so interesting!
FrostHollow have you come up with any conclusions?

The cost of freeze dried foods or raw meat is certainly more expensive than kibble, & my little boys seem better on Royal Canin than raw foods

Both boys use to eat Wellness kibble, my Vet suggested Royal Canin for them both & they love it much more

The dogs everyday diet is Royal Canin for mini dogs, they are fine on this with no poop problems

when I fed K9 Natural freeze dried I added lots of warm water & even then they had nugget poops

Both boys eat 2 meals a day, I think they drink plenty of water, I clean & refill their water bowl each day
    Thanks

Oh dear, Anita how is your little guy doing, is he ok?

I tried my 2 Yorkie boys on chicken wings & every time they would vomit 30 – 60 minutes after, No more bones for them
I use to worry about the bones in their throat & belly!

That is very interesting about giant dogs growth plates & hormones,

Kathie the DCM issue is a very tiny % of dogs affected, I think Wellness make great foods

I see Acana has a lot of Legumes, maybe your dog is getting a load of toxins from them,
How is he doing on the raw now?

Thank you both Susan & Sanne for your advice, I will follow up on those websites, I have been using fish oil capsules for 5 years I don’t think they are helping much anymore

@Acroyali Thanks for the great information
I needed company after my lovely husband passed away last year,
So I now have great company in my little Yorkies, lots of fun for me & keeps me busy

Both puppies love eating, I will keep portions small, I want to keep both guys healthy
I’m feeding the boys Wellness core puppy food, 4 small meals a day

Do you agree with free feeding from a bowl of kibble, left down all day
I am home all day so i can have any routine that would help my 2 little boys

I have also heard dogs can vomit bile if their tummy is empty, how horrible for those dogs

Then some people say FAST your dog one day a week, I don’t know how that would be good
I would like advice on how people with small dogs plan a meal routine, & space meals apart
    Thanks for all advice
