Wow I hope the food is okay I just recommended it to someone on here. I would say if the dogs are not eating it, take my advice, they know something is different. And you said the color is different? Then something is wrong. I had experience with this situation before, not this brand but another. When my dog didn’t eat it and it was a different color he got diarrhea when he did finally eat it. Try another flavor, and if they threw up or don’t want it change the brand until you find out what’s up if you can.
By the way, you can try pet fresh, it is in the refrigerator at the pet store and or Natures’ Instinct dry food. I heard good things about Instinct dry food. I just read all these posts about Fromm, I can’t believe it. But it sounds like everyone is having the same issue. So just based upon that I would change dog foods period.Annette CMember
My family and I believe our dog had gotten sick and passed away all of a sudden on the 15th of this month. We believe it was the dog food brand Fromm. She had out of no where gotten sick the following week. Prior to her getting sick she had started not eating the food out of no where. So we kept going back to the pet store changing the flavor. Not the brand. She had begun throwing that brand up. So we started cooking her food and she would eat. Then we would once again ease her back to her regular dog food again. And she would refuse to eat again. Then out of no where she became really sick. We took her to an animal hospital. They did an ex ray and said it was nothing serious. Just belly a little swollen and her throat was a little swollen. So they prescribe her some medicine. She never got better. We took her back two times. And was told give meds time to work. The third time we took her back she died in our arms. This all happened within 1 week. She was always a very active dog. Then this evening we were looking on line for answers. And found articles of other dog owners who had same thing happen to their dogs that were on same brand that died out of no where. My family and I are in total shock. And disbelief. And hurt. To say the least. The pain is unbearable. And would really like an answer.Debi MMember
I agree…my dog never had an issue. I used to get her spring naturals but it was discontinued. I bought her the Fromm surf and turf ( and yes I did mix it) and since then she has never been the same. She started with horrible diarrhea. Took her in got her medicine and it cleared it up. Once off the medication she got diarrhea again. It gets so bad she will have it numerous times a day. After thousands spent at the vet she still isnt right. Her calcium had dropped so low she was having leg cramps and seizures. I have her on special vet diet food and she can NEVER eat anything other than that which also doesn’t help all the time. I had complained to them numerous times and they never once responded or even cared . I hope someone slaps a lawsuit on them
I am going nuts right now, this is a shame for all these people with Fromm. I just ordered a bag of Fromm. I used to use it and stopped for a while b/c I rotate brands, but now I don’t think I should use it. Anyone else having trouble with this food?
I had called pet stores that sell it and ask them if they had any trouble with it, and they said no it is a big seller and no one returned any food or complained about it. But I believe what you guys are saying as well. Darn, I don’t know what to buy anymore, I guess you take a chance no matter what.Patricia AMember
Joanne I hope my post doesn’t start the bashing of grain free and DCM. I’ve been feeding Stella Chewy’s kibble before the controversy started. They have a HUGE following and I and don’t think they are on the list brands possibly implicated in cases of DCM. I have Chihuahuas so breed not prone . Stella’s has limited ingredient food now. Turkey, duck etc. Please go to their website and take a look. My dogs do very well with their kibble and a topper of some of their freeze dried. Some of their kibble has pieces of freeze dried added also.
It’s only sold at pet supply stores. They have a clean bowl club where they email $3.00 coupons. Ask ANY questions on their f/b page and you get a VERY quick response. Can’t hurt to try . Store always takes bag back if it doesn’t agree with them. No money wasted.
Fromm changed their formulas slightly, so Sheri if your dogs did not want to eat it, it’s the formula, the surf and turf now has chicken in it. Check your bag and see if you had the new one.
And Patricia thank you for your reply, I would feed Stella’s but my dog has trouble with the raw freeze dry foods they are too rich for him, but thank you anyway.Patricia AMember
Just to clarify Joanne the Stella’s kibble comes comes with JUST the kibble also. No freeze dried pieces.AnonymousInactive

Have been feeding my dogs Fromm Gold Adult dog food for over 20 years and have never had an issue over three different dogs (husky mix, Newfoundland, Golden Retriever). Lots of speculation on this thread (“I *believe* it may be from the Fromm food.”) The only way to tell is to get the food tested. Don’t speculate. Fromm has had very very few recalls and has been in business since the early 1900s. Small, US-based company that sources its own ingredients – one of the reasons I chose Fromm in the first place. Good luck to everyone!Aaron WParticipant
So I know this is a dog thread but this i think is helpful and totally is related. My cat princeton 11 years old, beat cancer when he was 7, bad a chicken allergy that I suspected back when he was about 5 or so. At the time shopping around it was very difficult to find a cat food that was chicken free. Fromm beef for cats, dry food, was the only one that actually at the time didnt have chicken in it. I used to spend tons of time reading ingredients of dry and wet food to make sure I was meeting his dietary needs and obviously not causing him bodily harm. I bought a new bag of food in September. Fromm beef . All of a sudden my cat had severe diarrhea, in and out of the box constant I moved the litter box into my living room for hi. Within 2 weeks he lots hair on his head where cat eyebrows would be and a few days before I was going to take him to the vet- not even suspecting this was a cat food issue- he was yowling in pain, Took him to emerg. He had a UTI blockage and sadly i had to say goodbye very unexpectedly. So me and my younger cat hanging out these last two months. Shes been to vet but when I was there I told the vet she had started biting and licking her paw pads, he wasnt concerned. Moving forward to last week sydonia my sweet girl kitty of 3.5 years old, all of a sudden licking paws, licking the hair off her belly- no sores though. But itching and aggitated. Still eating the same fromm beef food. Called my vet explained she has licked off the hair on her lower body and is licking her lower region under he tail. Even with this new bag of food I am changing the brand. I went to the store where I got some sample pkgs of other brands that have no beef, chicken, eggs or dairy. The top four items cats and dogs can be allergic too. He told me fromm beef had lots of chicken in it. I said since when?! The original recipe had no chicken in the beef. I emailed fromm they said they have not changed the recipe. Needless to say princeton is possibly over the rainbow bridge due to unannounced ingredient changes. And sydonia is in process of changing her food over as of TODAY. external symptoms of itching, licking/ overgrooming, watery eyes or gurgly purr is food allergy symptoms. That can take up to two years of an animal eating a food they have sensitivities or allergies too to show physical signs. I do not know how long it has been since they changed their recipe. I just know it has made my animals exceptional ill. There is no actual animal allergy test you can do either, blood work is not effective in this department. Knowing as of today that I might have unintentionally makde my cat(s) sick from not re reading the food recipes in the bags makes me feel awful. I know when I first bought beed fromm it was the only one with no chicken or chicken meal or chicken liver and now it has all three plus broth and all these other items. I will be close monitoring my kitty who is still here. I hope this helps anybody who might need a more recent reassuring post to CHANGE FOOD DO NOT feed your animals fromm. You will pay a difference price than buying a new 70 dollar bag of food with more transparent companies.Stephen JParticipant

From 2015-16, I was fostering an abandoned dog on my own. In the summer of 2016 I switched to Fromm because I wanted the “best” food I could supply. Within the first week, he began vomiting. Soon after, he had bloody stool, then bloody diarrhea. He also didn’t want to eat which was NOT like him at all. We went to the vet right away. We stopped the food and placed him on a bland, soft food diet (“prescription”) and pumpkin. Within a week he was back to normal so I began implementing Fromm into his soft food prescription diet. Vomiting and bloody stools began again. I stopped the Fromm and began the bland diet again. I finished the prescription soft food diet, also made him boiled chicken and rice, then gave him frozen dog patties with pumpkin (for stool consistency) and frozen blueberries and strawberries. He went back to normal in no time. I have read on here the number of stories and deaths which seem to correlate with Fromm.
I would not recommend or try this ever again.
