    Hi Debbie

Yes, I meant give her 1/2 in the am and 1/2 in the pm.  Her stomach size, how much she thinks she needs to fill it is going to be the size of her largest meal, so keeping her meals both the same size is going to help her.  Good canned has higher protein than kibble and it’s more like eating meat since the moisture is incorporated in it.  Any favor is fine as long as it’s grain, potato, etc. free, low carb food.  As long as her bowels are fine you don’t have to do the pumpkin, but it doesn’t hurt if you keep giving it.  It’s just more to spend money on that you could be using elsewhere, so if I was you I’d keep a can on hand for just in case, but wouldn’t use it if you don’t need it.

Sorry to hear about your headache:-(  Hope it’s better soon.

  • debbie

ohh my, well im saving alot of these posts lol.. and i still need to look to see if i can buy the canned locally, or need to get it shipped, and the prices etc… and you do the canned every day, not just now and then huh? a certain kind? i mean i know i have the posts saved as to the brand, but i mean any flavour in that brand? now a very dumb question here, what is the purpose of the canned? it has a higher protien then the kibble?

  • Storm’s Mom

I give about a tablespoon of the canned. And yes, you can sprinkle the probiotic on top of the kibble/canned mix.

All 3 together is not too much as long as you remember to decrease the amount of kibble in the mixture from what you would feed if you were doing only kibble.  This is sort of the key part of all of this 🙂

  • debbie

ok, and yea I think im over doing it on the pumpkin:( I initially started it due to her bowel movements being so runny, when i started on the brothers allergy, well she loved it so much, that now pretty much i give it daily, not much a teaspoon to a tablespoon but maybe i need to stop it, ok, so with the canned, how much can do you give?  just a little bit? as a topper, like im doing with the pumpkin? and all 3 at the same time can be given? as in brothers dry kibble, plus canned, plus the pro biotic? that wont be to much?

  • Storm’s Mom

Yes, I really do think 1 cup per day will be fine. I wouldn’t think you would need to continue the pumpkin long term, but I’m not sure it hurts either? (hopefully someone more knowledgeable about that will chime in, as I’ve only ever fed pumpkin for a few days at a time when Storm had diarrhea). Remember when you add the canned food that you’ll need to decrease the amount of kibble at the same time, otherwise you will be overfeeding again.

  • debbie

ok, thank sorry if I was not understanding, but I have been very sick, and to top it off, a horrible miagrane headache.
I have alot of serious health issues as it is.

thank you, and sorry about all the confusion.. do you really think just 1 cup per day will be good enough? and still keep putting the pumpkin on top, daily? next month I will get some kind of pro biotics, or canned food also.

  • Storm’s Mom

debbie – yes, what patty is saying is to feed her 1/2 cup in the am and 1/2 cup in the evening. My guy is his ideal weight, 26lbs – so just about what Audrey should weigh – and that’s what he gets.

  • debbie

patty, what do you mean by uneven meals? i mean i know what you mean but i mean in how do you mean it? I feed her twice a day, am and pm, I give the 1 cup am, and the 1/4 cup pm cause i feel 2 cups is to much for her, and she is too hungry to just eat once a day, and i started reading here that most people feed their dogs twice a day.. I give that 1/4 cup at pm  cause 2 cups per day is to much for her, and one cup not enough… so what you are saying is just a total of 1 cup? maybe 1/2 cup in the am and the other 1/2 cup at night?

  • Pattyvaughn

NO, no, no.  Sorry that was emphatic.  What I’m saying is I have dogs that are SUPPOSED to be 40 lbs and they only get 2 cups, so your dog that is supposed to weight less should get less.  My dogs are VERY active and they only get 2 cups, so your dog that is not active should eat less.  DON”T  FEED MORE!!!  Wait a couple weeks before you change anything, and see how she does after the steroids are clear from her body.  DO NOT let her behavior determine how much you feed.  You probably need to feed her less, but it can wait until the steroids are out of her system.  Why do you feed her such uneven meals?  She’s so hungry in the morning because her meals are uneven.

  • debbie

Thank you Patty, yes I agree you are right.. also, what I was told by a few people, and vets lol, was even though she is 40 pounds, not to feed her for that weight, as she is overweight, a cocker of her bone structure should not weigh more then 27 pounds, so going by that she should not be getting more then 1 cup per day, see what I mean? yet, she does seem to hungry on it, also she loves the brothers:) she waits in the am for me to get it out…like now, she already ate this am 1 cup and a tiny bit of pumpkin on it, yet she is sitting right in front of that cabinet door now, wanting more, loll
she has really never loved any dog food this much, except when I was making her homemade. so you think then I am needing to maybe give her 2 cups per day? one am one pm? I dont want to over feed, plus now have to really go easy on it till new one gets here.. I want her to lose weight, ohh and also she is not active at all, pretty much lays around and sleeps all day, wonder if that is part of this detox?

  • Pattyvaughn

    Hi Debbie

My dogs are 40 lbs and VERY active.  They get the equivalent of 2 cups of Brothers per day.  It may take a couple of weeks for her body to clear the steroids, so if I were you I would stay where you’re at with her food for now.  How do you tell when a dog is hungry, versus a dog really likes a food and would gladly eat it even if they aren’t hungry?  Your perception of her hunger should not be how you determine how much you allow her to eat.  That’s like allowing a 2 year old child to decide how much to eat.  Some can stop when they don’t need more, but some will ALWAYS over eat.

  • debbie

Betsy, you give your dog brothers, right? how much do you give? she is off the steroids/predisone for a few days now( not sure how long that drug actually stays in the body, do you?), and I am giving her about 1 cup of brothers in the am with a tb of pumpkin on top, and a few flakes of coconut.. and in pm maybe 1/4 cup of bro plain, but she is still starving, lol maybe she needs more? she is 40 pounds but is overweight.

also gave some apple slices and more carrots but realized it may be a big no no for her, due to the sugar?

  • debbie

Betsy, I just e mailed you.. now I have you in my contacts the right way:), before every e mail I got, even spam was being saved in my contacts, lol and I could not find anyone…. deleted a ton.

I have been up since 3 am, very bad headache.

  • debbie

ohh ok.. thanks betsy:), thats why I said about a month.. I was not exact on it… so 3 weeks only?seems longer.

well I do feel she is doing better due to it, cause well I mean I sure cant be totally sure, but she has in 8 mo, or really not since age 3 been doing this good:)

  • Debbie, I think it hasn’t been quite that long. I think you received the first Brothers order on November 12, so that would’ve been the earliest that you started her on it.

  • debbie

she has been on the brothers for approx. over 1 month now, im not exactly sure, she went through a 5 pound bag of the allergy, and now a 5 pound bag  of the fish/potatoe n grain free is almost gone, it has to be a little over a month…..
is that your pet monkey on your pic? adorable:)

  • debbie

ohh ok, and thats great that you have used it in summer months also with good results, here in missouri, with the heat n humdity, and well ticks have always been bad here, but odd even in pa. when it was cold she got fleas, im sure due to her ammune system being so  down:(

  • debbie

     ohh, ok sorry..

  • Hound Dog Mom

    Debbie –

I use Sentry Natural Defense. You’re looking at the ingredients for the regular Sentey flea and tick. I posted a link to the site for the Natural Defense. There are no chemicals in the Natural Defense.

  • I’ve been using Halo Herbal Dip left in concentrated form and putting drops of it on the dogs’ harnesses or collar couple times a week.  You can apply it to cloth like a bandana or other. It can also be mixed with water for a spray to spray on the dog and their bedding or put in the bath water.

I’ve also been using OnlyNaturalPet Herbal Defense Oil.  Again, couple drops on the dogs’ gear.

I’ve using these through the summer months and haven’t had any flea or tick issues.

  • monkey

How many days have you been feeding Brothers?

  • debbie

hi hound dog mom:), please dont think im being fussy or picky, just that audrey has had so many issues, I looked up  the sentry, and its main ingredient is:
Isopropyl Myristate, and it goes on saying  they are not sure re it, and it can have side effects etc etc, did you know that was in it? its so hard to find totally natural and to be honest, when you do alot of times, it is just not effective:(

  • Pattyvaughn

I didn’t want to feed Darwin’s all the time.  I just wanted to have some around for when I didn’t get something else defrosted(like tonight) so I played around with their calculator until it told me an amount I liked and then I placed an order.  Their records should show that I have one 50 lbs dog that I want to raw feed every other day.  I haven’t made up my mind if I’m going to modify that amount for my next order yet.  But so far it’s really working for me.

  • debbie

Hello all, was waondering if anyone here is from Missouri? would like to actually meet, maybe start a play group for dogs.. and just to get together from time to time , would be nice to have someone in my actual area… nice to meet someone  from here face-face:)
maybe get together with our dogs and just do things, etc.

         thanks, debbie
ps I am between branson mo, and springfield mo.

  • Hi Cathy,

I use Darwin’s for half of my meals (and often try to stretch it into every third meal because of the cost). On their website, they have a calculator where you put in your Doug’s weights and it’ll tell you how much you need. Hopefully, this link will take you right to the page: http://www.darwinspet.com/order-now/DogsOrder2b.aspx. If not, click through the “Order Now” link and it’ll take eventually get you to the calculator.

  • debbie

may I ask what kind of a dog you have? I have a cocker spaniel, that had, still has but not half as bad similiar issues… and I put out a ton of money on vets n meds also..

  • Look into Nature’s Variety Instinct LID.  It comes in turkey kibble.

    http://www.naturesvariety.com/Instinct/dog/kibble/LIDturkey

  • debbie

brothers is good for that, my audrey is doing really good on it

  • Cathy

Aww ;)!   Okay, that’s what I needed to know.  It sounded good to me, because of the ingredients…but I really don’t know much about pet foods.
I won’t be getting that then.

I still feed them cooked foods and friuts, veggies, sardens, pumkin, yougurt…things like that.
Just thought if I can go cheaper for a good quality food…I would switch off the HK.

I did mail Darwins the other day, asking about the cost it would be to feed my crew that food…and no word back yet.

I want to feed raw at times…but I want to know I can afford and stick with it.
I like the HK because I feel safe with them…but sometimes I think it’s over priced.

You’re precious grand daughter could probally teach me a few things! LOL
I do text a few hundred times a month…but phones and computers, I’m limited on. I keep my cell phone very simple.

Tried to teach my husband how to just answer a text or call from mine…in case I’m not in the room…and he won’t learn it. Men! :0)

Thanks so much for helping me with this!

Honeybee is the tiny applehead chihuahua. Black and brindle. He weights 6 lbs. Let me mess with this and see if I can figure out pictures.

  • Shawna

Hi Joanie ~~ there really isn’t one “best” food for any breed..  However high protein is not a concern for any healthy dog — breed doesn’t matter.  Your vet is incorrect in that logic.  Did your vet tell you why he/she felt that?  They used to think that high protein caused kidney disease but that has been disproven for many years.

John (here on DFA) feeds his dog Christo Brother’s Complete which is about 35% protein.  BUT he adds meat toppers to the food — increasing the protein content even more.

Labs also tops her dogs’ kibble with high protein toppers.

Killer thing is — the Adult Freedom is only 24% protein and the Large Breed Adult Freedom is only 26% protein.  Many of us here consider those protein amounts to be too low not too high..

  • Shawna

I think it also depends on the question being asked :)..  If you are a consumer asking about their food I’m sure they are more than willing to answer.  If you are someone like HDM wanting data like calcium levels it may be different.. 🙂

You may be able to add more meat to the food but it depends on what the current calcium to phosphorus ratio is.  Plus you’ld have to add quite a lot of meat to get the overall percent of protein up to acceptable ranges..  This would throw the balance off.  However, Steve Brown has a premix that he sells on his See Spot Live Longer website.  The premix is inexpensive and could be added to meat your purchase which could then safely be added to the I and Love and You..

I wonder what the company has to hide by not answering phone calls —- hmmmmmm ?

  • Shawna

cathy 🙂  hee hee, love you too 🙂

Yes, the kibble would be a step back but with the economy the way it is —- sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do..  Glad you are wanting to stick with dehydrated.

Like Hound Dog Mom said though, the protein is just WAY TOO LOW at 22%.  That’s how they make the food affordable..

Talk about asking kids about computers —- my TWO year old grand daughter knows how to work my smart phone better then my husband..  She can take and send pictures, send text messages, make calls etc..  Hubby can’t figure out how to turn it on :)…

The email address on Mercola is an old address that I mainly use for newsletters, purchase confirmations etc but it does still work and I do use it :)..

It’s been a while but I have a mental image of Honeybee or maybe it is Mozart I’m picturing?!!  Now I’m curious if the image is correct..

  • Layla’s mom

I am new to this site but my dog needs help with her allergies. We have spent a bloody fortune on her with meds at diets. I need a dog food with out brewers yeast, oats, lamb, liver, fish, beans, chicken, milk, potatoe, rice, duck, beef, flaxseed and corn. She can have egg, turkey, wheat, barley, kangaroo, pork, venison, rabbit and beet pulp. Is there any such food or do I cook for her?

  • cathy

I need to correct myself…The company “I and love and you”, emailed me 3 days after I mailed them.

  • debbie

Joanie, im kinda new here and so many have helped me , but if you look above in case she does not see your post a person here called labsrawesome, would im sure be a huge help to you:)

  • debbie

joanie, a friend of mine in pa gives her lab homemade vegan diet, which you im sure would not want, as her lab had a ton of allergies and skin issues, another lady i know here in mo. gives her labs homemade but not vegan, there is a neat lab forum online, called labs, lol
also dogster has a neat forum

  • debbie

thank you, I tryed for it months ago, was turned down.. not sure why, as my credit is not that bad, but low income im sure why… i was mad cause yes as you say it would help, esp if she will need ear surgery:(

  • I bought my daughter a loft for her bedroom last Christmas and had to take this funky gel-memory-foam-bed-pad-topper-thing that I bought at Costco for her previously off of the mattress in order to use the mattress more safely up in the loft.  It’s been laying downstairs on my basement floor ever since and the dogs love to lay on it when they come down to “help” me with the laundry.  I’ve looked at that thing a thousand times and thought I should cut it up and use it to pad both of their crates.  Now, I think I will!  Thanks, Mike!

  • LabsRawesome

Hi debbie, don’t know if you would be interested or not but here is a link to a credit card that you can use at you’re Vet’s office. You can charge anything that you can purchase at you’re Vets. Like Surgeries, teeth cleanings, Meds or flea treatments or whatever. I have one w/a fifteen hundred dollar limit. So if one of my 2 dogs or 3 cats needs to go to the Vet, it’s covered by the card, and then I can just make monthly payments on the card. Monthly payment is $25, but obviously you can pay more or pay it off.  That way I don’t have to worry about not having the cash to pay the Vet. Or choosing between Vet care and food. Works great, and you get so many months no interest. Like a surgery we did was 18 months interest free financing.        http://www.carecredit.com/vetmed/

  • debbie

Joanie, I dont know re labs. but I have a 6 yr old cocker who has suffered with chronic ear n skin issues, and I started her on brothers food, and I see a amazing change!!! I love the food… the site is brotherscomplete.com

  • Joanie

What is the best dry dog food for labrador retrievers.  I was using Blue Freedom, but my vet said the protein content was to high.  Any suggestions

  • debbie

ty.. ok so rub into her fur ok.. well today im cutting her hair all off, lol and giving her a nice long bath, as those sores have gotten better…

  • aimee

Mike… LOL  I did the very same thing about 3 weeks ago! I got my memory foam from Kohls… on sale and a 30% off coupon.

I had covers from previous beds but using fleece and tying the ends is a simple way anyone can make a nice bed.

My dogs love the memory foam beds!

  • doggonefedup

If the flea infestation is really bad you can add powdered garlic and boric acid. But. first give the dog a bath with baby shampoo. Fleas can’t swim so they will drownd in soapy water and get flush away when you rinse.

  • doggonefedup

Yes the regular spices will work hust fine. put them into a blender and pulverize them into a powder. then just rub some into the fur daily. Make peppermint the dominant herb.

  • Cathy

That is reason to be leary of this company. I thought with the sweet potatoes being first ingregient…I could just add more meat.  My email was answered the very day I emailed the company. But that doesn’t mean it will be next time I have a question.

  • Cathy

    Thanks, I’m slowly learning lol

  • Cathy

    Thank-you much, Betsy!

  • debbie

well jan. will hopefully be the first month, since april that she wont have to go to the vet, n get 5-8 meds.. so right there, brothers food will be costing me less then the vet n meds…

I dont think one month since april she has not gone, n had to get a ton of meds, and actually there was one or two times that she had to go 2 times in a month… which was insane.

only meds she is on now is her thyroid pills, 2 times per day, n her eye drops every other day…
so next month i want to do the brothers and figure out what is more important a pro biotic or the ear liquid, or the canned food, maybe to stock up on the canned food.. need to go to that site to look at their prices, etc.

  • Cathy

Awwwww! Shawna I love you…but you already knew that! Everyone is great! I wanted to post a pic…but so scared Imma mess up…but I’ll try.  🙂

Yes, you remember Honeybee 9 yr. old Chi, Mozart deerhead Chi found abused on road with heartworms and Sister my Boston mix …I stopped traffic and picked up, she was fed only bread.
I call her my granddaughter because my son at the time was in Jr. high…and she so took to him!

I still feed 5 stray cats 2 times perday. Got 2 fixed and will be getting other 2 fixed. One is a old tom cat…that comes and goes. I don’t know if I’ll get him fixed though. We don’t have freezing winters…but on  cold nights I give them warm homemade broth and they have a huge igloo doghouse on my porch…for protection from the elimates.

Okay, as for the food lol…I did see only natural pet only sells the kibble.
But no..this is a dehydrated. I no longer feed kibble.
But Petco you can order from their wed site. They have beef, turkey and chicken.

    Beef would be…sweet potatoes,USDA beef,celery,carrots,cabbage,whole egg,flaxmeal, tricalicium phosphate,cranberries,paypaya,pumpkin,rosemary,parsley,gingeroot,dried alfalfa,dried kelp,zinc,sulpate,vit e acetate,vitD3, vit. apalmite.

    caloric conent (333k per cup)
    crude protein22%
    crude fat 8.0%,fiber 8.0%,moisture 9.6%

1.5 lb bag makes 36 lbs of food for $20.00

I’m paying $80.00 for 40 lbs of food.
I did email I love and you…and he said my doggies would eat half cup dehydrated mixed with one cup of water per day ( I feed twice a day). Each one would eat that.

Would be a lot cheaper for me! But only if this is a good healthy food.

Thanks for your email info, also! You’re very sweet!
You did give it to me on the last site…but I didn’t know if it was still usable.  I have to ask my kids everything about computers hahaha

  • debbie

Mike, that is that is neat, I had actually thought about doing that one day for my audrey.. my other dog used to have a memory foam dog bed and she loved it…so is the 49.00 cheap? I think i paid about 30-40, yrs back for the dog memory foam bed I had…. but to get 4 beds out of it, that is great!!!

  • LabsRawesome

Every time I put 2 and 2 together, I come up with 5.

  • LabsRawesome

Hi debbie, I’m glad that Audrey is doing so well on the Brother’s. I figured she would. As I have heard stories of other dogs, with some serious issues, that have turned their problems around w/ Brothers. Hopefully you can afford to still feed Brothers once the food Dave bought runs out. Richard is an awesome person, and he makes a great dog food, but it is expensive. How are you going to afford it?

  • Hound Dog Mom

The kibble and canned looks okay. The dehydrated, which is what I think she was asking about and which is now available at petco, does not look good at all – I’d never feed it. It’s only 23% protein and sweet potato is the first ingredient. I’d also like to add the company is very sketchy -imo. When I was doing my calcium list I emailed the company three or four times and they never responded. I called the company numerous times and each time went directly on a hold and no one ever picked up – once I put my phone on speaker and while I was working on the computer and waited a half hour on hold and no one ever picked up. For this reason I would be hesitant to use or recommend any of their products.

  • Mike P

Went to Home Depot and bought a memory foam mattress topper. They were on sale for $49.I got one and cut it up and made Jubilee 4 dog beds.Tracy’s friend made us fitted covers out of on sale bed sheets frpm Wally world.4 dog beds for $49!!!She loves them.Just putting this out there so you don’t have to buy an expensive doggie bed….

  • Shawna

Well hello there!!!!!  I never would have put two and two together if you didn’t tell me Honeybeesmom!!!  I know how passionate of a dog lover you are so your comments make more sense!!

How are you and your fur family doing?

THANK YOU for your very very very kind words!!!  I know Toxed will be very appreciative of your kind sentiments too!!  Gives me BIG warm fuzzies!!!! 🙂

I looked up the food on Only Natural Pet — a kibble right?  The protein is good at 35% and the fat is in good range with the protein.  It’s hard to know for sure how much protein the lentils and garbonzo beans are adding to the overall protein —- but because there are (at least one) meal before the lentils, I’m guessing the amount is small.  Just a guess though.

The lentils and garbonzo beans do have a protein in them called lectins.  Lectins can cause allergies and intolerances.  But, not every animal (or human) will have an issue with every lectin — some are fine with corn but react to potato or fine with potato but react to wheat etc etc..

I’m not fond of feeding canola oil exclusively.  I wouldn’t feed the fish and red meat formulas without rotating in foods without canola.  Just me though 🙂

I love that the food has chia seeds instead of flax seeds and that they add turmeric.

The food does have several sources (or possible sources) of MSG like excitotoxins — natural chicken liver flavor, natural flavor, brewer’s yeast and citric adic).  If the pups have an issue with excitotoxins this may be enough to cause issues.?

As kibbles go :), I think it is a good food as part of a rotation but wouldn’t feed it exclusively..  Hope that helps..

There are no chemicals in sentry natural defense – the ingredients are similar to what doggone posted. It contains peppermint oil, lemongrass oil, thyme oil, cinnamon oil, etc. I only do this during flea season. I’m in northern new york so for me that’s generally late april to early october.

  • debbie

does anyone know how new this one is, as dave and others here have mentioned this product to me for my audreys ears, but searching, I found a different one that i did not see on their site:
NEW Zymox Plus Otic – HC Advanced Formula with Biofilm Reducing Complex works on resistant microbes quicker and more effectively!
    Advanced
Formula Zymox Plus is engineered to manage the toughest chronic otitis
externa cases – those due to antimicrobial resistant organisms, such as
pseudomonas, that form complex biofilms. Features increased potency of
the proven LP3 Enzyme System, PLUS four additional biofilm reducing
enzymes formulated to destroy the hard-to-penetrate biofilm slime layer
that hides the microbe. Ideal for those cases of repeated reinfection or
the infection that just won’t resolve.

  • debbie

thanks, and yes I have heard, I guess here:), re the food.. guess thats cause if her immune system is weak she will be more prone to the fleas, etc? correct?
is the sentry all natural? as I thought their stuff was not good.. I am still in Missouri, and the fleas are very bad here.. on the east coast never had such a problem… so you do the items you mentioned year long, or just in summer, when the fleas are bad?

  • debbie

thank you:), now do you mean just the regular ones? like in spice jars? and put it in her food, daily, how much? thank you… as I dont want her getting fleas again, and it has been so warm here, a few days had to put on the ac.. does not feel like december at all….

  • Hound Dog Mom

I use Sentry Natural Defense Topical (http://www.sentrynatural.com/products.html) every three weeks or so and add Earth Animal No More Ticks drops to their food 6 days a week (http://www.earthanimal.com/flea-tick-program/earth-animal-no-more-tick-drops.html) and comb with a flea comb daily during flea season. I had no issues with fleas or ticks this past summer. The more species-appropriate the food your dog eats the less susceptible to internal and external parasites your dog will be.

  • Doggonefedup

try a combination of Thyme Leaf Powder, Peppermint Leaf Powder, Lemongrass Powder, and Rosemary Leaf powder.

do you, or anyone here for that matter know what to use on a dog for a flea repeleant?? I always used to get the capstar, n then put on her frontline, or advantage, etc etc, then started using the pill.. well those are all obviously chemicals and she does not need them, a few months back I got for her in a really cool health food store here that I love (in springfield) wallys, anyone ever hear of it? it was pretty cheap, much less then what I was paying for the chemical stuff, I think $11.00 for a very tiny bottle, has a little eye dropper in it, bad thing was it never worked. and most is still left in the bottle, if someone wants, I cant send it to them.
I used to try a tiny bit of vinegar in her water, that never helped, a a tiny bit of fresh garlic added to her food, that never worked, plus I hear garlic is ok for dogs, then hear its not…, anyone have any input here?
     thank you

  • cathy

Okay, don’t know how this got to the top of page…didn’t mean for it to!

  • debbie

Lol, yes me to then, as other night.. when dave first said he was getting it, and a 15 pound bag.. I went to their site, and that when I seen the allergy one came in a 13 pound and a 25 pound, but last night, w/ all the talk of this, lol I looked again at the site(as I posted), and seen where it did show the different options, and the 5 pounds bags… either they just changed their site, or I did not click where I should have .. odd.

its good they do offer all the options though.

cute doggie on your pic:)very odd here w/ my audrey.. she has been barking like crazy, and not sure if I ever posted here re her n the barking, but she never ever, ever barks… till the past week or so, I say its the brothers food, lol seriously.. as her ear(s), are clearing up maybe? and she can hear noises better.. as she never was like this before.

so, I am happy that she is barking now:), even though getting on my nerves a bit

  • cathy

Hi Shawna, sooo good to see you again! It’s me bubbasmom. I must had been so mad when I first posted…I can’t remember my password hahaha   and I’m not computer savy…so I’m not even gonna try to remember it…so I’ll do a new one.   I wanted this under the post you made to me…but didn’t look like that was gonna happen..so I just posted this way. I don’t know how to work this site yet. lol

But you will remember me as Honeybeesmom! You and Toxed2loss were such blessings to me on helping me with my “little man”.   Yall both are WONDERFUL, CAREING people!  The dedication that yall gave to me…was just unreal…and I believe I made it clear my feelings toward you both.  LOTS of wonderful ppl on that site…just wish they would not had taken it away.

I did come back to this site because like I said I found it a few wks ago…and it has lots of wonderful info for pet lovers.                                                                                      As for my last comments from the other day…well, I still stand behind them. hee hee sorry.    But I’m not a bully, and I’m gonna  hide behind computer and start being one!    So I will put all that to rest.   Thank – you for your kind words. I did get overboard…but I was really teed  off with what I was reading.     And as you know…I did apologize to everyone here.

I do have a question for you ( hee hee) Have you heard of the new dehydrated pet food from a compnay that just launched 2 months ago called “I and love and you?” Looks really good…but I want your input.  If not…I’ll post the ingredients for you.   I’m still feeding HK…but would really like to use that new food.
Any way, hope ALL is well with you!

  • debbie

     thank you:)

  • Pattyvaughn

Yep, you get the full site.  I get the leftovers;-(

  • its-a-me!

for some reason all my (as doggone) posts are disappearing.
Try 1800whiskers dot com OR fordogsake dot com  for abady canned food. check price and shipping before ordering.

  • Dave’s Hounds

Debbie the food has been ordered. I don’t want to sound like a a$$hole but you went back and forth on which one – now this has been ordered and it is too late to change and I am out of ton on business with little time to screw around. When someone does something nice for you – just leave it. I will disregard your multiple emails. If you do not want the food send it back and Brothers can donate it or you can donate it.

  • Hound Dog Mom

    Betsy –

I ordered my Abady from doggiefood.com, with the free shipping it was the most cost effective site I found. Doggone may know another site though.

  • debbie

omg patty, i feel sooo dumb now:(, sorry.. i just went to their site, and it shows the allergy in the 15 pounds/3 /5 pound bags etc, i swear, lol when i looked last night it did not.. ohh my im really crackin up, i have been under a ton of stress, plus not sure how many of u know here, but i work with children, against predators.. and NOOO I dont get paid for it, not a cent, have a website, being re done now and I dont get any money from that either, whatever donations come in, go to the designer, as i get free design, hosting etc…

  • Pattyvaughn

    I’m so confused now.

  • monkey

I guess i get to view a special brothers complete site. One with a 3 5lb bag option.

  • debbie

ty betsy, lol yea someone else just posted same, but if u go to their site it does not say that, it only says 13 pounds and 25 pounds:(

  • Pattyvaughn

You were right.  They recently changed the size.

  • debbie

ohh ok, i can e mail dave.. but its already ordered, unless maybe e mail richard and see when the orders go out? as long as it is the same exact price….

you know i had a little yorkie before audrey… got her at 8 weeks old, in pa, and she lived to be 18, and never a single problem… never had a dog with as many issues as audrey:( and peaches, the yorkie used to eat candidae

  • Brothers Allergy comes in 13 and 15 pound packages. 15 pounds ships as three five pound bags.

  • Pattyvaughn

Not so, they have changed sizes on Allergy.  They do 5, 13, and 25 now.

  • Pattyvaughn

It will probably be fine, because even the Fish is so much better than where she was.

  • debbie

ohh my r u sure?? as i went to brothers website yesterday, and under allergy it said, 13 pound 52.99, and 25 pound 77.99, darn if i knew that i would have asked dave, as its the same:(.. well  now i know for next month:), ty

  • monkey

Allergy comes in 15, they send 3 5lb bags. Same price as the fish you ordered.

  • debbie

ok, thanks:), so should I see if the brothers order can be changed to the allergy then? its only 13 pounds though, and dave wanted to do a 15 pound, which is better for audrey, n me , as it will last a little longer, but it is in the fish n grain free, pot one, will that be ok for 1 mo? and then next mo i get the allergy?
     very confusing, i know:)

  • Pattyvaughn

Yeah, I meant raw meat and dogs handle it great!  People have to be careful with raw, but dogs don’t have a problem.  But you have to do it right.  I think for you it would be better to just stick with Brothers Allergy;-)  She’ll get better, if you rush her, the detoxing will be more intense, so it’s OK if you make the changes slowly, and give her body time to adjust.

  • Hi doggonefedup,

I’ll admit, you’ve got me curious about Abady foods. I know we talked about them and I did look at their website – which I found a teensy bit odd. I’ve had great luck with my two using EVO and Wellness Core canned foods, but would like another to add to their rotation. I recently tried Nature’s Logic and while they seemed to like it, I think the lamb variety I chose caused a bit of loose stool. There are plenty of canned varieties I’ve used that didn’t work for us. I just donated a case of assorted cans to the shelter last night before I left work. Maybe Abady is my next trial. Any suggestions which is the most cost effective site from which to buy it?

  • debbie

hi betsy:), geezz, now i dont recall…. im a bit upset, i had a email from someone and well it has me feeling down.. one fault of mine im ultra sensitive:(
it was a link someone posted here, telling me about a food just as good as brothers, but alot cheaper, if i re find it, ill send it, im going to stay with brothers food though, i know it is out of my price range, but she needs it…you would be amazed at how much better she is already…. and the odor of those sores on her skin, well they no longer have a odor:)

  • debbie

when you say raw, you mean what? raw meat? as what kind? i dont mind doing it, even though i am vegan, i will do what is needed to make her better, but i have read alot re raw not being good…. i have to take things easy, as i had almost 8 mo of nothing but high vet bills n a ton of meds…next mo will be the first mo of hopefully no vet:), then i can concentrate on the brothers, and either the canned, or the probiotics…are there certain sites where these things can be gotten cheaper?

  • Hi Debbie, which food are you referring to that has sweet potato as the second ingredient? I wasn’t sure if you meant to post on that products thread on Dr. Becker’s thread.

  • debbie

thank you, ahh so it was you who posted the same to me a while back? lol, the people here have been , well more then kind, but also alot of stress here for me , so many misunderstanding here of me , some understandable, some sorry to say, not at all…. yes, im im sure you all know dave ordered audrey food, im not letting the cat out of the bag so to speak, lol as he already posted it last week he was going to, a 15 pound bag, so kind, and generous, but the allergy only came in brothers in a 13 pound, or a 25 pound, so i asked him to order the 15 pound bag of the fish n grain free, potatoe.. that will be ok, right?
and next month I will do the allergy, for what 6 mo you say? now the canned, can that be bought anywhere? and how much? just a tiny bit in with her brothers?
I thank you so very much

  • Pattyvaughn

    Hi Debbie,

I feed raw in the AM and I do add canned to Brothers.  I have one very picky dog so I started giving him a spoonful of canned to get him to eat, and if I gave it to him, I had to give the others some.  Then I came here and found out how it was good for them.  This was before I learned about Brothers or had my problem pup.  If you’re not comfortable feeding canned, it isn’t completely necessary, it adds more meat to an already meaty food.  The probiotics help the gut heal faster, but Brothers has a decent amount of probiotics.  The best probiotics are Mercola’s, they have more strains than anyone, that would be a huge advantage in recolonizing the gut.  If you don’t add these thing Audrey will still continue to get better, if you do add them she might get better a little faster.

  • doggonefedup

    debbie,
the canned food you will want to use is Abady’s. Use either the Apex1 or the Vitality Diet A, and you should stick with the Brothers Allergy Formula for atleast 6months. Mercola makes the probiotics you will want to use. You can add small amounts of fresh meats also. Make sure that the Brothers makes up the majority of the food. boiled chicken livers or beef livers add a nice flavor to the food too.

  • debbie

?? maybe I did not word this post right? what I am meaning to say here is I am going to keep on with the brothers food for my dog…. hope there is no more confusion re. my wording here? sorry….

  • debbie

patty, do u feed him 2 times a day? am n pm? and are you the one that also ads the canned food, n extra pro biotics?

  • debbie

I just checked out this site for the food.. as I will have brothers for the next 30 days hopefully, I will need to make sure I am able to get it next month, and all the following, its not expensive, I mean the price is what I was paying for even nat bal, but the nat bal was a huge bag, bigger then 15 pounds… anywho, looked at the food you mentioned here, and it has sweet potatoe as a second ingredient, and that is not good for her, or I should say for dogs with skin n ear issues…, but I do want to thank you for trying:)
I just have to make sure somehow I have the $$ for the brothers next month..and just stick with it, as so far, it seems to be the best food she has ever, ever been on, and I am so pleased with it in the short time she has been having it:)

  • debbie

yes, I did, there was info re p&g, but what it was, was oddly enough, them saying that 7th generation  is not what they claim, all natural.. what a joke, as p&g products are dreadful…

  • Toxed2loss

I don’t know for sure that it was P&G. That’s why I said “maybe.” It’s was one of those large companies. Did you search, “who owns 7th Generation?” EWG probably has it.

  • debbie

yes dave and ty, i just got your e mail, and i replyed to you, i also sent you my phone number….

  • Dave’s Hounds

Debbie I sent you an email. You will also need something for your dog’s ear like Zymox.

  • debbie

tox, I was looking up when p&g took over seventh generation, and it shows it has not.. are you sure they did?  I hope im right:).. as I loved their stuff….

  • debbie

yes, thats what i was trying to tell you, its just that one place.. and you cant go any other place if you live in my county…and not to sound greedy, as I am NOT, I dont go there much, as I am only one person, so I dont get much, and they are not far, but still takes gas…its ok, I wont mention my finances here ever again, or if audrey needs food, as it has created alot of problems, if I knew that, I would have never mentioned it, or took the help from the person who did help… I have a few items listed for sale, if they sell, I should have enough money to order more brothers…I do thank you, and everyone for all the help n advice I have been given here, have learned alot:)

  • Melissaandcrew

Least of these appears to be the only “full service” food pantry for your county-but most churches have a pantry of some sort, as well as try the animal shelter-call and ask if they know whom runs a pet food pantry in the area, or surrounding counties. You can also call a local rescue-they would know where/whom runs one if its out there.

  • debbie

omg ur kidding me?? omg im so mad at myself that i did not know:(and p& g does test on animals…, I dont have tv, well i have 2 tvs, but no cable, no antenna n converter box, lol so i dont get tv news etc…. im so mad, I loved seventh generation:( ty for telling me

  • Pattyvaughn

Yeah, I’ve had the same problem.  I’m glad it’s not just me, sometimes I wonder.

  • Toxed2loss

Yes, one of the big groups (maybe P&G) bought them out and changed all the formulas. They definitely added toxic stuff in. Horrified me when I discovered it. 🙁

  • debbie

ohh yes i hate yahoo, but use it only for 2 e mail accts, and for obvious reasons dont like gmail… other more secure email  accts are better, but im old school, lol so for reg e mail i use yahoo, and it is slow as molasses….worse now then ever, yes i privately e mailed u to a few min ago

  • Shawna

Headin home..  My email is acting up again but I’ll try reply to your emails tonight..

Is anyone else having an issue with Yahoo mail??  It freezes on me, slow to load emails, etc.  Takes 3 or so minutes just to get the reply page to load??  Frustrating thing is it happens off and on — usually more on then off though.

  • debbie

:), yes I recall the grand daughter…. I learned alot from you, I think at some points in everyones life, we can learn from someone else, no matter what our age, etc… good conversation:) please call me whenever you want, really wish someone from here did live in mo, in my area…

  • Shawna

Yeah 🙂  My cell phone tracks the time I spend on each call.  I enjoyed the conversation too!!  🙂  My grand daughter was miffed that her dinner was so late though!!!!  😉

  • debbie

ps i dont, or wont mind the alcohol , but that smell, it will smell like a hospital in here, lol

  • debbie

ok, thanks.. my furniture, is real wood, as why i like to use lemon, vinegar n olive oil, i keep a thing of it made up, have been doing that for a few yrs now…. so seventh generation is toxic? i love their stuff, and  pretty cheap, and they dont test on animals:)

  • debbie

yes, exactly, all the meds are now stopped, except for her thyroid pills, and eye meds, that will be life long:(

  • debbie

omg we were on the phone that long?? lol, yea i guess so, see italians love to talk, and omg, NOO I have not lied to you, or anyone, no reason to , I so enjoyed our conversation:)

  • Toxed2loss

    Hi Debbie,
I use alcohol & water 1:4 with a coup,e of drops of dish soap, to clean all hard surfaces. Counters, glass, furniture, floors, bathrooms. I do bump the alcohol in the bathroom cleaning spray bottle. I use baking soda to scour with. In the laundry Bio-Kleen. Dishes, Bio-Kleen. I use Unique stain & odor remover for stains & odors. I use oxy clean free in the toilets. That’s it. If your furniture has a modern polyurethane finish, you don’t need to oil it. The only time you need to oil furniture is pieces finished with tung oil or another penetrating oil.

  • debbie

christian county, only pantry here is called least of these

  • Melissaandcrew

What county are you in debbie? One that I recall seeing was Share the Harvest which covered two or three counties.

  • Shawna

Yeah, I remember but had to use my brain to do so and it really hurt!!  I replied to your email but here it is  http://probiotics.mercola.com/probiotics-for-pets.html

PS — I lost all my favorites, documents, pictures (had a back up though), music (also backed up) etc to a virus about 6 weeks ago..  Lost all the documents etc that I had saved for my previous classes too…  Ughhhh  Hope you didn’t lose anything too important!!!!

  • Shawna

LOL!!!  Don’t “walk away”!!!!!!  Most conversations are nothing like this one :)…  I’ve had this site bring “out a different side of me” too a few times.  A side I’m not too proud of.  But, take a break and come back destressed and see how or who can put you right back there needing another break again!!  🙂  hee hee

  • Shawna

Hi bubbasmom ~~ I admit that I was skeptical of Debbie too and maybe in the back of my head I still am a bit..   Kinda just the way I am.  BUT, I spoke on the phone with Debbie for almost 5 hours..  I’ve talked offsite with others and  I’ve been a part of this ongoing conversation since its inception..  I don’t think Debbie is lying.  Maybe I am being made a fool of but I don’t think so…??

  • Shawna

I imagine that once you are not spending monies on 6 different medications for her (or however many it was) you will have more to put towards food.. 🙂 I think people are forgetting the amount you are putting out in meds right now. Meds that your vet already said she wouldn’t prescribe again.

Some have suggested cheaper foods which may be what you have to end up doing in the end but what needs to be factored in by all is that the dog has been diagnosed with a yeast issue (candida) and Audrey needs probiotics be it in the food or as a supplement, higher protein etc.

  • debbie

yes, I did exactly that, and all that came up was food pantries for people, and actually only 1 in my area, the one I went to 2 weeks ago, it is I know the only one here, and they at times have baby food, and pampers, etc, but never dog food, but I tryed searching in different ways, and nothing for dogs, not in my area at least…  but again, thank you:), I have a few items listed for sale….

  • LabsRawesome

debbie, just type in dog food pantries, in your area. Just out of curiosity, I did that, and came up w/a bunch in my area. But their probably not going to have any high quality foods, just grocery store stuff…just sayin. If you can afford the Hi-Tek, I would go w/that. $24.99/15lbs grain/white potato free.

  • InkedMarie

Yep, we spoke about it. Hey Shawna, I sent you an email, you can answer here if you want. I lost my favorites: what Mercola probiotic for pets do you recommend?

  • debbie

ok, just tryed and all I got was food pantries, like for people, not dogs.. maybe you searched a different way? please let me know

  • bubbasmom

To everyone ( but debbie) I’m sorry how I’ve acted and will walk away from this site. You are all good people…but this kinda stress…I don’t need lol. I’m an animal lover and this really brought out a different side of me.

  • debbie

really?? as I tryed last month and nothing came up, so all you did was google ozark mo, for dog food pantries? ok, will do, and thank you

  • Melissaandcrew

    debbie-

Google dog food pantries in your area. I came up with several that offer dog food in Ozark Missiouri, but you need to narrow it down by county-

  • bubbasmom

I’m sorry, but you are such a fake. I can read right through you! You just get better and better…the more you talk. I don’t believe for ONE second for gave donations and time to an animal shelter. You are a con and know just the right words to say. You have really angered me…and I’m one that wouldn’t watch an animal go hungry to save my life. But you are a user. you’re correct, you haven’t asked for dog food ( not in those words) but in a round about way…oh yes, you have! Saying constantly vet bills…ect. of course ppl are gonna send you food! Smart you are!  No one ( honest ppl) NEVER want to know any animal is hungry! For all I know…you could be selling the expensive food for money to feed YOUR habit.  I have never in my life acted this way on a pet site. EVER!  Nor do i in real life…unless it’s over someone mistreating an animal. But reading all of your post…you a user and you should be ashamed of yourself doing this to animal lovers…that do care!

  • debbie

please e mail me if u wish link to my site… as im not going to post it here, enough issues, re all this:(, and I pay 0 for the site, never have…this is what i mean by pre judging me , you could have asked me , and I would have been honest with you, never paid for the site and am not now, would never have the funds to, the site is not one for dogs, its for children…. I have worked with LE (law enforcement), FBI, etc, to help kids…  no pay from that either…never did it for the $$ dont want money for it.

  • Melissaandcrew

    debbie-

The point is not whether or not your running a scam, the point is that you need to find a way to afford your dogs food. I know a web master is not cheap-yet, you are rebuilding your website. While the amounts you pay are minimal(perhaps) when added up, they can equal her food. In a community of dog lovers, you don’t need to ASK for help-just post several times that your completely out of dog food with no way of getting more and the offers will roll in.

I would like to eat filet mignon every day, but I don’t because my dogs come first. If you can not afford Brothers, than find something you can afford and stick with it.

  • debbie

thats neat, in pa I used to bring food and toys and blankets to a no kill shelter, funny how our situations change in time…. they always needed help, actually I used to walk the dogs there, it was a very nice place, much smaller then the one here

  • debbie

marie, one person yes sent audrey food, i have offered to pay her back, even if it had to be slowly.. and I will.. and i have alot of items im going to post online for sale… i dont know what more to say here, im doing the best i can, if someone does not want to help, they dont need to, i dont want to be judged thats all, as i have done nothing wrong

  • Hound Dog Mom

That’s too bad your shelter doesn’t have a food pantry, I didn’t see that you posted that. The food isn’t always bad, at least at my shelter’s pantry. Yes, we get a lot of Ol Roy, Pedigree, etc. from Walmart and as donations but we get a lot of quality food from Agway and Tractor supply as well. One time we got two pallets of Orijen and Acana (not expired or damaged) because Agway terminated their contract with Champion (the food was too pricey and people weren’t buying it) – it was probably a couple thousand dollars worth of food.

  • Shawna

I agree Marie! I had offered but I wasn’t the one who sent it.. I know who did though and this person is one of our beloved regulars with the kindest of hearts..

  • debbie

thank you, I will check it out, want to try to keep her on brothers though… but I will look at link you posted, and thank you:)

  • debbie

I never ever asked for any help here, 2 people offered, one who did send food.. and now another who said he would…. what would my con be here? seriously.. to get free food for a 6 yr old dog that I have taken care of for 6 yrs on my own…. I understand how you feel…. re my car, I owe nothing on it, its not new, paid cash well over a yr ago for it, my ins is cheap, very cheap, at my age, liability, never any wrecks, etc…. and usually I have no gas, as why im home so much, and my net bill is less then 15.00 per mo…  I have some items that can be sold, will place them on craigslist for free, and use those funds for her food… not trying to use anyone for food…

  • InkedMarie

Debbie, I’m not asking whether you *want* to keep her on it, I’m asking if you are going to. I know it’s not my business but since you’re posting it on the internet, I can respond: you’ve taken free food. If you’re not going to keep Audrey on the Brothers, then don’t take any more free food. That’s not fair to the people spending the money on a pricey food. Is it worth the price? Sure is but it’s not if you can’t continue or if you only can if someone sends it to you.

  • Melissaandcrew

    debbie-

Approx 1 week ago, you posted that you have a website, and were having it revamped-something to the affect that you kept getting denied access, and your web man did something, and “now I am getting a whole new website” What is your websites address?

  • debbie

true, I agree, but here as I posted before they dont offer it, they are wanting donations for food…plus with her being as sick as she was/is, I want to try to keep her on a good food… I may post in craigslist some items to sell today, and use that money for her food…

  • Hound Dog Mom

Good suggestion about asking a shelter for help. My shelter has a food pantry for pet parents in need. We get damaged bags of food from Walmart, Tractor Supply and Agway in addition to food donations from the public that we give away. Generally all we do is make the individual show proof of licensing for dogs, if they come frequently or if something seems sketchy we may ask for income verification. There’s no shame in taking advantage of something like this if you need it, better than an animal going hungry.

  • Melissaandcrew

     Hi debbie-

I am sorry, but this is starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth, so to speak. You stated you needed help until your check arrived on Dec 3rd-today is the 3rd, and already you are saying you spent it and have no $$ for Aubrey’s food.  You can afford a car, the insurance, and the gas to operate it, as well as have internet access-none of which are cheap, and could easily cover your dogs food.

While you may certainly be legit, cons are just too easy to run over the internet, and animal lovers frequent fall victim to them because we envision an animal without food etc, and it pulls the heartstrings. Since it would appear that you are not going to be able to finance her vet care and food in the near future, I would suggest that you contact a local shelter or dog rescue and see if they can assist you in providing food for her. Most have programs or offer some sort of assistance for low income people-you will probably need to fill out paperwork for verification before they will assist so that your need can be verified as legit.

I applaud those who are willing to help, but please ask for information that can be verified privately before doing so.

  • LabsRawesome

Hi debbie, I have been reading thru the comments. I noticed that you are have trouble affording the Brothers dog food. While I think Brothers is a great food, it is pricey for ppl on a budget. This is a link to Hi-Tek rations. It is a 5 star food, it is grain & white potato free (the chicken formula). Here’s the best part- it is only $24.99 for a 15lb bag. FYI- if you look it up on this site(dfa) the ingredient list is wrong, it needs updated. Their site (Hi-Tek) has the correct ingredient list. This food seems like a better option for you, while still giving Audrey an excellent food. http://www.hitekrations.com/products/htn_grainfree_chicken_meal_sweet_potato.html

  • debbie

Toxed, a question, can you please tell me or e mail me a list of exactly what you use for cleaning your home? like floors, counters, bathrooms, etc? dishes, everything…. thanks:)

wow, well tox, as we all im sure know, knowledge is power:), I have learned a ton from you… what I clean with, and used to is the following:

baking soda, seventh generation, and ecover, vinegar, olive oil….did not know you can clean with alcohol, I do know I use that to clean door knobs etc…i mostly use vinegar, and for my furniture i started a few yrs back, using olive oil, lemon juice and vinegar to polish n clean my wood:)

  • Toxed2loss

    😉

  • Toxed2loss

Debbie, if you got rid of all your commercial cleaning products, and switched to isopropyl alcohol & water, and baking soda for scrubbing, and stopped buying scented anything, you could (once you’re transitioned) save enough money to feed Audrey Brothers.

Back when I did a lot of counseling for the Foundation, I had people get back to me on how much money they saved by switching to non-toxic & fragrance free. I got reports that ranged from $400 -$2000 per year. That was just cleaning products.

  • debbie

wow, so no more candles for me:( ok, so im gonna ask the person who gave them to me to take them back, nicely, if she says no, I will wrap them and give them to someone who will use them, darn tox they smell sooooooo good:(

and look pretty to, I thought if they were soy it would be ok.. its not that, its also the scent in them.. wow… well good thing I never lit them yet, as they will im sure be a nice gift for someone who can use them… smell just like a vanilla custard…

  • Mike P

     You are to funny Toxi!!!

  • Toxed2loss

LOLLLL! You and Tracy are the best doggy parents!!!! Lucky Jubles! Can I send my husband to you for training? GFETE

  • Toxed2loss

Fragrance is toxic. You just said they smelled so good… You SMELLED them. The toxic fragrance is volatizing from them and filling the room with toxic VOCs. It doesn’t matter what the source of the fragrance is, the action is the same.

ALL synthetic Fragrances, are made up of chemicals. On average 600-700. Of those, the average number of toxic chemicals included is 200. Fragrances are considered trade secrets, and therefore can’t be monitored or regulated for safety by any government agency.

The toxins included are petroleum solvents, distillates and by-products, addictive substances to get you hooked on their product, chemicals to make your skin more permeable – so the addictive chemicals get into your blood stream faster, chemicals to make them volatize more, stay suspended in the air longer and stick around being active longer. They are known carcinogens, neurodegenerative, & endocrine system disruptors.

It doesn’t matter wether its a plug in, a candle a cleaning product, shampoo, body wash, soap, laundry product, expensive or cheap perfume, scented pine cones, car “fresheners”, flavorings in candy, “fruit” drinks, gum, etc… They are all toxic. ALL

  • Mike P

     Hi Toxi.
Tracy and I have a electric back massage machine that we use on each other.Jubilee jumps up between u when we do our backs.Turns out she was waiting for her turn.We now give her 5 minutes of massage time several times a week. After she is done she just lays there and is so relaxed. We have to physically move her to her spot on the bed so we can have our spot lol

  • debbie

Ok, was not going to reply to you.. as this is a real waste of time, but… what sad story?? ahh, me going to a food pantry, was not posted to sound sad, lol.. wow I may have $$ issues, but glad I dont have whatever is up ur rear .. sorry to get rude.. but I dont get you, I got canned food, pasta, beans, rice, food, but someone else needed it more… sad story?? no, its something called life.

and caring about others, very simple.

I am not looking for a medal for giving some lady food.. she lives in my area… have given her  rides before, etc.

I have done things for people in the past and never let them know it was me , you know, it comes from the heart. I do a whole lot of work for children, all the time and expect nothing for it. I do it to do it.

       what dont you understand?????

  • debbie

ohh, no as I say, I want to continue with the brothers, for sure.. yes… but once I get on my feet, I am hoping next month I do want to get that canned food someone mentioned, and the other ear cleaner, I have to take things slow, yes hate to mention the word now, lol but lack of $$..sssshhhhhh

  • debbie

wow, sad, as they smell sooo good:), ohh btw I have not even lit them yet… so even having them in living room, un lit, still bad?

  • debbie

marie, ohh no I want to keep her on it, have emailed with richard, saying how happy i am re the food… she is better then ever, except for all the detox issues… I see where you are coming from, understandable…

  • bubbasmom

Wow…you’re really smart. I’ll give you that. But con artist usauly are.  So now you have a sad story that you went to food bank…and low and behold, now you have a neighbor that had no food…so you gave all that food away. Ummm alrighty then.  I’ll leave this alone now…the more you talk the more I find of your “GAME”

  • InkedMarie

Debbie, I think it’s fine to accept help, whether you asked for it or not but IMO, this is different. You took dog food for a dog with big time issues. As i just asked before, will you continue to feed the Brothers? If yes then if Dave wants to offer to buy you food, that is awesome of him. If you won’t continue to feed Brothers, then don’t take it. IMO.

  • Toxed2loss

All fragrances are toxic. If those soy candles smell like custard (or anything else) they are toxic. They could be the cause of Audrey’s diarrhea.

I don’t like soy anything. It’s an estrogen analogue, causes senile dementia 5 years ahead of peers, makes you look 5 years older than your peer group, and causes cancer.

  • InkedMarie

Debbie, I will ask this here because you have posted about your lack of funds: will you continue to feed Brothers? It’s an important question. I’ll be honest, a few weeks back, I told Shawna I almost sent you some food but then had second thoughts.

  • debbie

Ahh, this will be my last post to you, cause I like this site and its for dog food, issues with pets etc, etc, ok, the shoe fits wear it? lol, ahh, how would I have not known you were talking about me? you were pretty clear, talking about the person who got free dog food, etc etc…

again, if you really cared, you would have posted to me , something useful, and if you have been reading here, you would see me posting re my income is seldom, my postings have been about my worry of my dog.

And you have not ruffled my feathers, gee if I let them ruffled that easily, I would really be in trouble.
I have NO idea what you mean by my game, but I have shared some very personal info. re myself with 2 people on this forum, as I have NOTHING to hide.

As that was the whole idea why I was trying to reach betsy prvt, as NOT to talk re my $$$ here, but you seemed to have missed that, again would be nice if all got along here, as we all say we are dog lovers, now right?

If you have kept up with this forum as you say, you will see where someone told me re going to a food pantry… well I did 2 weeks ago, got a bunch of needed food., then found out about a neighbor who had nothing, I bagged it all up, and took it to her….

Please, you dont know me , so dont judge.

  • bubbasmom

Funny I didn’t mention any names….but I thought you’d chime in…kinda like “if the shoe fits.”
Anyway…I’ve fostered MANY abused and neglected animals. I’ve cried many times because of how they were treated. Still cry today for all the sad animals out there. I’ve even bought and made home cooked foods for the ones so bad off…when I really couldn’t even afford too.  When I drive I’m always on the look out for pets on short chains and no shelter…I get right on phone and call police with address.  Anyway…I’m not gonna go with the back and forth with you. I see you’re very angry because I’ve ruffled your feathers and hopefuly caused a kink in your little game!  I’m very thankful ppl are giving you advice on your doggie…But geeze all you talked about was no funds. Next time just ask about dog food…and keep your income to yoursel….well, unless you’re…well, you know…playin the game.

  • debbie

tox, so even the plug ins get to you? wow, sad, sorry:( I remember you telling me about candles, how about soy candles? a neighbor gave me 2 very pretty ones last week, soy.. they are red and a cream color, and smell like custard, seriously… so yummy, so are they bad for audrey also?

  • Toxed2loss

    Hi Betsy!
Lucky Sam! I sure miss my chiropractor! She was incredible! But her new receptionist was addicted to those plug in air fresheners… She put them in the office and that excluded me. The VOCs contamination lasts months. 🙁

Can’t wait to hear how his check up goes!!!

  • debbie

Ha, Lol.. you have NO idea what you are even talking about, but thats ok… mystery person.. I simply told betsy I was not able to find her email addy, cause I was NOT, I finally did, and sent her 2 prvt e mails this am….NO one pays my vet bills, rent, and all my other bills, so you really need to get your stories straight before you post things.. and as I said, if I wanted everyone to know re. my finances etc, I would have kept posting this am, and NOT emailed betsy prvt, as I did..

you act like someone is buying me food, or paying my bills, its a dog that needed food, not me , I would go w/out to care care of her, and have done so many many times before.
A true animal lover would never talk the way you have.

  • debbie

what??? ahh, look here.. whoever you are, I conned NO one, and NO one pays my bills but me.
thank you, and if you were a real dog lover, you would not be so angry re someone helping a dog with food.

  • debbie

ahh, yes I know that… he offered, I accepted I dont know what more to say to you…this is NOT something I make a habbit out of doing, actually  when the first person got me the food, that was the only time  I have ever, ever taken any help re my dog. Its a horrible feeling, to you know? but she needed it.
guess I should have never taken anyones help, as now here, another issue here…now feeling this way. I did NOT ask dave for food, he offered, and I am glad.. but if he chooses to not, thats ok, I will understand, as I said I have never taken help for my dog before.

  • debbie

ohh, yes very very nice… someday I will re pay them back… I would do the same for someone if I was able, good to see there are still kind people in such a crazy world

  • bubbasmom

This is my first time to ever post on this site. I’ve only found it 2 wks ago…and even then I noticed a “certain someone” conning ppl out of dog food.  Bet she also knows of ways to have her home bills paid in her community also.  If you don’t want your income talked about in public…then why have you constantly posted about you have NO funds?!  And stop acting so dumb that you can’t find ppls personal emails…so you’re talking “through” the forums…so others will know “so and so” is sending you dog food…so that others will do the same. Im just an honest person and a HUGE pet lover…and I don’t take kindly to people using people!

  • debbie

wow, no I had no idea I could do that, I was actually giving her a little back type massage for the past 2 days, she loves it….this I will try.. thank you… odd as I spoke of the diarreha in my posts lasts night, and early this am, well she woke me up at 5 am to go out, she never does that, and it turns out she has it again, poor thing, like water, 3 times since 5 am:(, not sure whats going on, cause when the allergy food was over, and I started on this fish one, it all stopped, andher movements  were fine, now back to this:(

  • Hi Toxed!  That makes sense to me.  When I saw our vet specialist (I just don’t know what to call this dear man… the one who has the TCVM and did Sam’s chiropractic adjustment) he mentioned that he thought that some of Sam’s tension in his neck area due to the pain in his elbows could have contributed to Sam’s ear issue.  I think the infection was probably the result of vaccines, but the tension in his neck probably exacerbated the condition.  The vet was right, Sam was on medicine, but his ears cleared up very quickly after his adjustment.  So excited… we get to see him again tomorrow!  : )

  • InkedMarie

guess I should have read all before I responded.

  • InkedMarie

This is a nice thing from Dave but Debbie, you have to be able to afford this food yourself. I have no idea if anyone else agrees but its not going to help your dog to get food given to you and then have to go on another food when the free food is gone. It’s almost a waste of people’s money to get the food and then have to stop. So please, if it’s helping, find a way to feed it or try something else. JMO and it’s great that people have sent you food.

  • Toxed2loss

Yes. I do. If you give it time.

  • Toxed2loss

    Hi Debbie,
    I’m doing pretty good. Keeping busy. 🙂 The more I recover the more I take on. 8 years ago my whole life went suddenly, and horribly wrong. Everything came to a screeching halt. I used to be the kind of person that always had multiple irons in the fire… So a lot of those things are still undone. I’m picking them up, where I left off. :-}

As for the ear, I meant filling it up with betadine & water. Then gently blotting it out and cleaning it. Dr. Becker has a video on ear problems. She recommends gently flushing it as often as necessary. With Audrey being on Brother’s you should see improvement. But don’t get frustrated if its slow. She’s a very sick puppy and her body has a lot of repair work to do. That takes time!

O.k, now I’m going to share something that may draw fire from some of the more skeptical posters… There certainly isn’t any cited research papers on it. @@

Part of her ear closing up may be due to congested lymph. I get this with fragrance and petroleum exposures. The lymph glands in my neck, just before and behind the ear, become inflamed, the glands become impacted, and the skin in the ear canal becomes engorged and hard. Mine have never become completely closed, like Audrey’s, but the canal diameter got considerably smaller. The skin in the ear canal would slough off, weep lymph, itch like crazy, etc. It effected my hearing as well.

The good news is that they’re recovering. It’s going on 2 years since this symptom manifested, and I’ve been dealing with it. But it is being resolved. 🙂

I think I told you that Rosie has vaccinosis ears… It’s taken 2 years to resolve hers, as well. It takes time.

But back to the lymph thing. I’d encourage you to move her lymph. Since she’s so sedentary, its not moving much. That’s when it congests. Gets hard. You need to massage her lymphs directly below her ears, stroking them t’words her heart. This will encourage the congested lymph to break up and drain from her ear canal. In fact, massaging her whole body will encourage lymph circulation and cleaning (dumping the toxins into the lower bowel, to be eliminated.) Be gentle at first, until you determine how painful it is for her. All skin tissue is laced with a network of tiny lymph ducts, smaller than capillaries. So even light massage will move fluid lymph. If its congested, it will take longer and may require more pressure. But don’t go at it hammer & tongs. Slow steady progress is what you’re after. 🙂 hope that helps.

  • InkedMarie

That was very nice of someone to buy you dog food, glad it’s working and thank you to whomever did that!

  • debbie

thank you dave, I will look for your e mail… (I wrote out the .com, as others here have said in the past to do that, re spam)… is that your dog on your id pic here?cool, a swimmer huh?and yes , re the food.. normally I always made sure  I had enough for her food etc, but all the vets bills and meds for the past 7-8 mo took over:(, I hope that will decrease now being on brothers, I have seen amazing changes in her already, I am so glad that   she is on it, very impressed with it:)

  • Dave’s Hounds

I will email you. I’m glad Brothers is working well but you will want to ensure that you are able to afford it over the long run.

  • debbie

let me try to find your e mail addy.. as no offense here please, but somethings are better off I feel not said publiclly, lol
     re my income etc..
and the vet was not for her ears, she had run out of the thyroid pills n eye drops…. let me try to find your e mail…

  • Debbie, You’re receiving your check today, right? You need to make getting her food a priority otherwise Audrey will end up back she she was a month ago. Is the trip to the vet more important than the food at this point?

  • debbie

betsy, I had your prvt e mail address you gave me , as we were emailing back and forth, yet your no longer in my contacts, Im sure I will locate it, yes your right.. this mo another trip to the vet, but not for the ears, that mney would have gone on her food….but your right re the larger bag, even when she was on the nat bal I always got the largest one they had. it lasted a little over a month actually…  I am so happy  we went with the brothers, I dont think she would have showed such improvements on another food, so fast:)

  • debbie

so you think even that right ear has a chance? w/out the surgery, maybe??

  • debbie

hi toxed!!!Im so glad to hear from you, was worried about you, wondered how you were… how have u been??so, w/ the betadine, i dont put it in the ear canal like the other stuff, just clean the ear with it right? as in dont fill the ear canal with it right?

  • Hi Debbie, I’m so glad Audrey is doing better! Give it time and stay the course.

Patty made a good suggestion about mixing the Allergy and Fish formulas since Audrey seems to really like the Fish. But, you’ll need to buy a large bag of Brothers to get started, to ensure that you don’t run out so you should choose one or the other to start. A 25 pound bag costs less per pound than the smaller bags. You really need to keep your budget in mind in order to keep Audrey stable and on her road to improved health.

  • Toxed2loss

Stay the course. If you need to gently clean the ears with betadine, do so. Don’t give up.

  • Toxed2loss

    Hi Debbie,
All this good news about Audrey is heartening! 🙂 Give her time. It takes a while for the body to repair itself. Don’t forget as she gets better nutrition, she will go through cleansing crisis. It will look like a setback, but don’t be disheartened. After each detox she will rebound and be better still. Don’t give up on the ear. I’ve seen some amazing things happen with my own body.

  • debbie

Daves Hounds.. thank you for this offer, I was trying not to take you up on it:(… no offense, but I felt odd, someone already once was kind enough to help, and I feel bad, but I do really need the help, and audrey seems to be doing good now on the brothers, I am so glad, I was so worried about her…not sure what to do, as you see patty here says to give her half of the allergy and half of the fish, but I would not want you to get 2 bags, then I would feel bad….  richard from brothers e mailed me tonight, he said it did not matter, I cant believe she is almost all out of it already, I was not giving her much, 1 cup in am and a 1/4 cup at night..
ok my e mail address is:
     [email protected] dot com…

  • Pattyvaughn

Real quick, it’s “Allergy” because it doesn’t feed the microbes in the gut that are causing all the allergy-like symptoms.  But it feeds the ones that help heal the immune system.  Allergies are like an autoimmune disease, a healthy immune system means no allergies.  Hope your feeling better tomorrow.  Good night;-)

  • Pattyvaughn

He’s a thin 40 lbs and very active.  He eats about 2 cups a day.  Audrey will perk up when she is feeling better and some of the extra weight comes off.  Everything is a little hard for her now, but things are getting better.  Give her a kiss on the nose for me.

  • debbie

yes, im off to bed to, not feeling to good.. thought i was getting a flu.. but it never came, just tired and well lazy.. can be the x mas blues, and thank you, re audrey and i hope your dog keeps doing good to, thank you, and everyone for so much help here:)

ohh before i forget, is your dog on the bro allergy? but the allergy seems to have more ingredients then the fish food, so what makes it a allergy food? ok, you get to bed dont want to keep you reply to me tomorrow if you can. and again thank you, and everyone

  • Pattyvaughn

So it may take a little time for the steroids to clear her system and the side effects to wear off.  Well, it’s getting too close to midnight for me.  I’m off to bed, but I just want to say, I hope you see as much improvement in Audrey and as fast as I’ve seen in Micah.

  • debbie

aww.. how cute!!!! how much does he weigh? audrey was 6 yrs old this past may, but looks and acts so old:( everyone thinks she is a old dog.. guess from her being so sad, missing my daughter, and  of all the ear issues, meds etc. she is not active at all, she lays around like a cat

  • debbie

Patty, yes you are right, re the steroids/predisone.. she actually just got done with those  yesterday, was her last pill…. and she finsihed the anti biotics and the skin pills about a week or so ago..

  • Pattyvaughn

No, the Border Collie in my avatar.  He’s quite the character and he does have some cat like qualities, like walking along the back of the couch and sleeping on the backs of chairs.

  • Pattyvaughn

Just try Allergy again first and see how she does on it now.  Then IF she still doesn’t seem to handle it OK you can try half Allergy, half Fish.  The starving act may only be because she really likes this food and would eat it all day if you would let her!!  Try giving 3/4 cup in the morning and 3/4 at night.  See if balancing out her meals helps.  Another consideration, she was on steroids, those can make a dog artificially hungry for a while after they are stopped.

  • debbie

Patty, a cocker also? ohh I can picture it, lol.. audrey used to lick her feet like she was a cat…. her skin is not pink, she has that blackish:(, i guess in cockers its called elephant skin,  and candidia? :(, its getting better though… I have never felt this good about any dog food

  • Pattyvaughn

Unfortunately, the itchiness is part of the process.  I’ve got one going through it now too.  One day his eyes will goop up, another his skin will turn pink, the other day he gave his feet a VERY thourough bath, today he’s scratching again.  But he is definitely improving!  I’ve had mine on Brothers for two months now and he is so much better!

  • debbie

humm.. ok, ty.. so you think i need 2 bags, one of the allergy, and one of the fish, and give her half each? she is almost 40 pounds:(, as im sure u know a cocker should not weigh that much, she is overweight due to her thyroid and all the meds, I have been giving her 1 cup of bothers in the am, and a 1/4 cup of it in pm, is that enough? she seems starving…

  • Pattyvaughn

If her stools are better now, then switching back to Allergy shouldn’t be as big a change as it was the first time you switched her to Allergy.  That may have been PART of what made her stools so bad.  I really would try the Allergy again, but in reality you may find you need to go 50/50 with Fish and Allergy.

  • debbie

ohh I also recall her really eating up her poor little paws, and licking, like non stop… worse then before she started on the allergy, I guess thats why I thought she was having a reaction to the brothers, where as I say.. in reality, she was doing ok on it, just detoxing.. her stools seem a little soft on the fish one, but not bad, so I have been giving her a tsp of pumpkin every other day or so, and she is having 2 bowel movements a day now

  • debbie

trying to remember.. yes i guess it was the detoxing.. as I thought she was getting sick on it if you recall….I know she was having a ton of bowel movements, and pretty much diehhrea:( very bad, that I dorecall now.. and I kept thinking it was coming from the food, but I guess, in reality it was her detoxing, right? but she seems to like this food much better, well both she ate… I remember the nat bal vegan, and the duck, she hated, she never finished all her food.. with the brothers now, she eats every last little kibble:)

  • Pattyvaughn

I don’t recall her being sick on the Allergy, other than what sounded like detoxing.  What was going on?

  • debbie

ok, thank you:), well im sure the person who donated the 2 bags to me was only trying her best:), she sent me 2 bags of brothers, one was the allergy, i gave audrey that first, the next was the fish(grain n potatoe free), she really loves it, its almost gone:(.. but the allergy one if u recall was making her sick.. geezz i keep thinking it was the food, well she was sick on it if u recall, seemed when she got off that, and i started her on the fish, she was better, she still has horrible gas, but thats it…you would be amazed at how much better she is, her skin is getting better, and she hardly scratches at all, and is no longer licking her paws:)

  • debbie

well tox, she is done with all her meds, except the throid pill, she is still on that 2 times a day, am n pm, and the eye drops every other day… but all else has ended, im scared as normally as soon as its ended, her ear infection comes right back, im so impressed with the brothers food, and so im keeping my fingers crossed re the ears:)

  • Pattyvaughn

You should keep her on Allergy for a while, at least 3-6 months.  It’s supposed to have less sugars so it doesn’t feed the yeast.  It takes a few months for the different microbes to get back in balance.

  • debbie

I was not able to do the meds for another 2 weeks, no funds… and the vet still is saying the right ear canal to be removed, he also says science diet food is the best for her, lol what a joke, that stuff is horrible…. I told him how great she is doing on brothers, need to ask you, you mentioned here in your post the brothers allergy, I gave her that first, then started on the fish one… its almost gone, if im able to get more, should i stay on the fish or go back to the allergy one? and so I need to also start on the canned food now right? thank you, thank you all

  • debbie

***news flash*** re audrey.. she is doing so much better, I am so impressed w/ the brothers food!!!! someone  from here donated her 2 bags about a mo or more ago? a bag of allergy, and a fish one, she finished the allergy, I had her on that first, she like it ok, but I was putting a little of pumpkin on top etc, started the fish one, and omg she loves it!!!!!! she is not licking her paws much, and her skin is clearing up   the fish brothers is almost gone, and !! the right ear is still closed:(, but that is just another issue:(she licks her bowl she loves the food so much..so now my quest to make sure I have enough money each month for it, and I am going to try to also get the canned that someone mentioned here, and the other meds for her ears.
I am so glad you all told me about brothers:) thank you all

  • debbie

Tox, how are you?? long time, no talk, I hope your ok.. audrey is better:), I am saying it has to be the brothers food:), someone from here donated her 2 bags a allergy one and the fish one, first she was pretty sick on them, now fine, she loves them, and is getting better:), but the right ear is closed still:(, dont think food will heal that.. she went through the bag of allergy food, and has begun the fish one, fish one is almost gone, she loved them both, and i see a huge difference in her already:)

  • Dave’s Hounds

    I see now…..

  • debbie

hum, first let me say, the link I just posted here is obviously not just meant for cocker spaniels.. the site is a cocker site, but I am sure it  can be used for cleaning any dogs ears.. its a little different then the blue power one.. but I just noticed this, suprised I never have before as I have read that page:(.. a little bit of hope for my audrey?:(:

My Veterinarian has recommended a total ablation of the
ear.  Will the ear cleaning solution help?
If your dog has had a severe ear infection for so long that the ear has calcified and sealed itself closed, you’ve probably waited too long to start using the ear cleaning solution.  If the ear canal has sealed itself closed, the ear cleaning solution won’t be able to get inside to work.  However, there’s no harm in trying.  You can try using the ear cleaning solution and using cotton balls and q-tips to clear out some of the major crud inside the ear. Over time, you might be able to clean things out to the point that the ear canal opens up.  It’s worth a try. You wouldn’t really be risking much to put the surgery off for a month and see if daily cleaning with our ear cleaning solution can accomplish anything.  I did once get an email from someone who successfully cleared things up inside the ear to the point that their vet agreed that surgery was no longer needed.

  • debbie

A site I have been going to for a while now, if you have cockers, this is a neat place.. they as you will see list a homemade ear cleaner, but w/ my audrey.. not fully knowing the extent of her ear issues I have not done it:
    http://www.zimfamilycockers.com/EarCleaner.html

  • Shawna

Great article Dave’s Hounds!! Thanks for linking it!!!

  • debbie

a forum re hounds, and alot of talk re ear infections etc:

  • debbie

very odd, i was searching things on audrey, as i always do, re the ear and in a bulldog forum, someone posted this:
I took Stanley to the vet last week and he was diagnosed with his first ear infection. It happens to be pretty bad and his ear is almost swollen shut, the other ear is perfectly fine. Meds have done nothing for him and what scared me and why I joined this forum is that the Dr. suggested that a TECA may be necessary. Stanley is our 3rd bulldog so we aren’t surprised by the cost and the high maintenance of the breed but a total ear canal ablation???? this surgery would remove his ear canal, seems pretty extreme to me for a 1st infection but they obviously know more than I do. They are a bulldog specialty vet. I would appreciate any input or suggestions that the group has for me for alternative treatment.

    Thank you in advance!

it seems very odd, a few people replyed saying it did not make sense and for  a 2nd opinion, also someone mentioned a xray, or mri to see if there is a abcess in ear etc… you know, maybe I need to come up with money for audrey.. or find a caring vet.. and have that done.. as her right ear again is almost totally closed.. maybe something else can be done for her besides for the TECA:(

ohh, this does not look good.. and I dont quite understand what all it is  saying here..:

pretty much what the vets told me n showed me:(

  • debbie

do you think when i get my funds dec 3rd, i should get those antibiotics you speak of here?? what do you all think> now she is down to one steroid pill a day( predisone), and ear cream 8 drops a day in each ear, but in right ear nothing will go in, blocked:(, and her reg thyroid pills 2 a day, one am one pm, and one pill 2 times per day, ketozale?, and I think enough of all left for 3 days maybe… he did not even give a 30 days supply, and exact same meds as last month:(

  • debbie

Yes!!! wow just read the whole article:

http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/issues/7_6/features/Canine-Ear-Infections_5642-1.html dave, thank you so very, very much.. unreal… wow i wish that vet was near me , she is a holistic vet in nyack ny….and she actually said  just how i felt n what shawna and tox and others said, that audrey has become ammune to all these darn meds.. and they are not helping.. and she talked about not pouring the ear cleaner into ear to fill canal, all the vets here have told me to do that, she says in her article, that doing that, just washes all the bad in the canal:(, what a great article, well poor audrey has bad luck in having a poor mommy….
well i love her so much, and have tryed all i can…. i have made a ton of mistakes that i know..

  • Dave’s Hounds

I am in MI but I will bet we have someone on here in MO maybe not Ozark MO! I will email you I can order some Brothers food tomorrow or Thursday and it will be there next Mon or so – can you make it that long without -can you pick something up for that time

  • Dave’s Hounds
  • Dave’s Hounds

Whole dog journal article is better – talks about a dual treatment using boric acid powder and another inexpensive ingredient that will attack the infection for a week at a time then has follow up instructions

  • That’s an interesting article, Dave. Lots of helpful information. What’s interesting to me (since my 6 old pup has been fighting a double ear infection) is the reference made in the article to the frequency of puppies having ended up with ear infections the result of vaccines. Hmmm… another argument for tithers..

  • debbie

going to look at link you sent me, this was in my faves, dont like the hills food ads there…:

  • debbie

dave, please e mail me.. also im in ozark missouri, is anyone here in my area??? I would feel so good if someone can actually see audrey….

  • Dave’s Hounds

Here is an article from whole dog journal that does not recommend the surgery buy does provide some solutions. Flushing the ear three or four times in a row before adding the meds. They recommend Green tea and other things – take a read. The more you learn the better you will feel in control. http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/issues/7_6/features/Canine-Ear-Infections_5642-1.html

  • debbie

ty, and you are right, each time she has gone to the vet, i pay for the darn visit, n then i pay for a ton of meds, and usually its the same meds as what they have given to me for her, previously… exactly the same, same dosage, same meds and usually for 2 weeks, i have asked the vets, cant we do a different med? as maybe she has become immune to the same stuff?? and cant we  do enough for a mo, not just 2 weeks? im told no… i really feel they have been wrong here.

  • debbie

    yep, sure are…

  • debbie

hi betsy.. no just the allergy so far… , im so depressed with all of this:(

  • debbie

you guys really make me cry:(.. its sad how strangers here can care more about my audrey then her own family(and i dont mean me).. very sad. well she has been on all different kinds of meds for the ear, and actually since age 2, has pretty much lived on antibiotics and steroids…  and what now has happened to the right ear, it appears totally closed.. and actually it is, but it is not… it has a growth now over the canal opening… coming from all the ear infections, believe me even though i live on a very tight budget, and to say tight, well i live on less then 700 per month, and thats for rent, food, bills, audrey, etc… usually i wind up paying rent, and vet, and hardly anything left for bills etc…as since this past april she has had to go to the vet almost each month…i fortunatly dont smoke, or drink, etc.. so no $$ goes on me , audrey n rent n whatever else comes first….
4 vets so far have all said same, that the surgery is needed, or put her down or live on meds( a few said if i dont do surgery they will not see her, as the meds are not going to help), as this time, they have actually helped less then the other times.. i hurt for her , like you cant know… we are pretty much all each other has.. i know that sounds nuts, but its how it is.

  • Shawna

Dog people are the best aren’t they 🙂

  • Debbie, Have you tried the Brothers Fish formula yet, or just the Allergy so far?

  • Shawna

Hi Dave’s Hounds!! All good suggestions but we’ve been down this road already.
Debbie is a strict vegan and has been feeding Audrey a vegan diet since she was young. Audrey gets multiple ear infections and some scarring is believed to have ocurred — the vet is recommending surgery and refuses to continue giving meds for the issue.
Audrey is also believed to have a yeast issue (not sure if localized or systemic but likely systemic as she has been on long term antibiotics for her ear).
I’ve asked if Debbie would be willing to add eggs or sardines to a kibbled diet (no matter which she feeds) but Debbie won’t have animal products in the house unless already processed. However, she did start giving kefir.. Two thumbs up :)..
There, I think you are up to speed 🙂

  • Dave’s Hounds

Audrey will be ok and taken care of you can stop stressing and put a plan together. Try a treatment diligently – it sounds like these is a lot of infectious material in the canal in order for them to suggest the procedure. So you will need to really attack it and stay with it in the mean time. Control what you can and do not stress about what you can’t. Give your dog food and love. This may be a case where you add strong antibiotics for a period of 30 days – I normally would stay away but this may be needed. I buy antibiotics for fresh water fish on ebay – they are human grade and come in 500 mg doses.

  • Dave’s Hounds

I add to every meal – it has worked miracles…..

  • Dave’s Hounds

Debbie I have been reading up on the surgery at http://www.petmd.com/blogs/dailyvet/2009/october/20#.UKxCcoWNsvQ. Seems like this is viable when the infection is too severe. I would try some other methods like zymox or Miracle blue and stick with is multiple times per day. Zymox has two formulas one to clean the ear with enxymes that attack the infection and one that does not require any cleaning your just drop it in the ear. Take care of your dog in the best way you can – seek help and advice, research treatments. In the meantime get the food straightened out. If you want help with Brothers I can try to work it directly with Brothers to send. You dog needs to be loved and cared for. That is an expensive procedure. Perhaps a donation page will help raise some funds – at least the first half – 750. I give to American Black and Tan Rescue and The Michigan Coon Hound Rescue – when they have a dog in dire need they post donation links and people chip in. Even if it is to get a second opinion or better/alternative treatment options. Please do not be depressed we cannot control all of the circumstances in our lives. We just have to do what is best.

  • Shawna

    Good post Storm’s mom!!
In my opinion regarding the additional enzymes and probiotics —- they would be helpful when added to the Brothers food. They will be essential in my opinion if Debbie feeds another food.

  • debbie

    ok, ty…

  • Shawna

I’ve never had a dog as bad off as Audrey but I usually go two to three weeks and then don’t need it any more.

  • Dave’s Hounds

if you want to stay on Brothers I will communicate with them and have them ship you some food so that i do not have to have your address.

  • Dave’s Hounds

yes I use the probiotics and enzymes with Brothers too it makes a difference. I use Mercola but there is a brand called K9 that includes probitics and enzymes and is more reasonable. I also have found PB8 for humans to very effective they last longer – I break 2 capsules with each meal and sprinkle over food. No gas and no runny stool.

  • debbie

ahh, i see, i take it by your screen name you have hound dogs?

  • debbie

thnk you dave for your concern(and everyones), i guess you dont know much re audrey, not to bore you but i will try to tell you her story.. she is a 6 yr old cocker spaniel, that i bought for my 23 yr old daughter 6 yrs ago (she was 6 this past may), and after about 2 yrs of age, she started to get horrible ear infections and her skin started to also be infected, badly.. i kept taking her to vets and kept being told it was a “cocker ” thing…and kept getting more n more meds and vet visits, and the ears kept getting worse, usually just the right ear… i moved from pa. to mo. this past april, and her ear infections got worse, really bad, inner ear infections where she was not able to stand or walk or hold her head up…i live on a very low income, and her meds n vet bills were/are taking about half of my income on a monthly- bi mo basis… and now it has gotten so bad that she is ok when on the meds and a week after off them, back to it again, only worse, now this time she is still on meds, all will be gone in 4 days, her right ear never really got better, put the meds in ear last night and seen ear canal is all closed again:( yes she gets in bad pain:(

so i was told either keep having her on meds or surgery, called a TECA, total ear canal ablation.. at a vet here cost for one ear is approx 1,500, at a vet in teaching hospital is a little over 2 grand…i love her, she is all i have, i want to help her.. but all seems to be going wrong:( and no vets for surgery wont work anything out, well one here wont, one in columbia mo at teaching hosp will u pay half then over 3 mo pay rest..

  • Dave’s Hounds

When i transitioned to Brothers I was already on 5 star foods but hen I first went grain free I had 6 months of issues. Adding the probiotics helped, adding the pumpkin helped more and the yogurt. Seemed to make it easy. Now they are grain and potato free. Natures Logic is reasonable – it is potato free but does contain millet – it has no synthetic vitamins and my dogs did really well on it. I still rotate through it once in a while. Merrick makes some affordable options as well.

  • Dave’s Hounds

No it will be more expensive then blue power which i have not tried but have heard good things about. Zymox uses enzymes to kill and prevent infections. Blue power is def cheaper and you may want to try that first. NV is Natures Variety but I don’t know if it is in your price range – if not look at 4 star foods – Not sure where you live but Costco has some on the 4 star list. I feed my dogs a rotation of food and I generally add something to every meal allowing my dogs fresh food. I feed Brothers but I am not on a budget. If I were on a strict budget I would buy the best food I could on the DFA lists and then supplement with probiotics (less expensive human ones) yogurt for a fresh source, pumpkin for fiber and to control the runs, and then add whatever meat I could whether it be sardines, salmon (canned) chicken (the cooked chickens for 3.99 at super market) and if you have the stomach – I buy beef hearts for $2 each and cook them 4 or 5 at a time in the crock pot for about an hour. I buy whatever is on sale. So you do not need the best food. Just the best you can afford. If you set up a donate page for the operation and food people will help. I would get a second opinion – research the condition on the Internet like crazy.

  • debbie

    i mentioned the …….
enzymes and probiotics, cause im pretty sure it was shawna who said to use them, plus the brothers… sorry if im not explaining myself, if i lay down my neck hurts worse, and im so upset re a family member, angry n upset that im literally having a hard time thinking….

  • Dave’s Hounds

How much is the surgery? Why is it necessary? Will you vet take monthly payments? Is she in pain? Can you get a second opinion (I know that costs more)? As far as Brothers goes it is an exceptional food but if you cannot afford it there are other good foods out there that will be decent and fit your budget. Then you can do what has been suggested – add sardines (99 cents for a tin – make sure in spring water and rinse them well to lower sodium) Trader Joes has cheap sardines with no sodium added. Add raw eggs, add yogurt, add chicken (you can buy a whole cooked chicken for 3.99 and it will last a couple meals. I don’t do raw but I gently cook beef, beef hearts (in the crock pot) rabbit, and I buy cooked chicken. They get meat from our meals. All of this improves your dog food. Buy one that will allow you to afford probiotics.

  • debbie

ahh, ok, I guess me being so stressed now is not helping..I am in a bad bad state of depression between audrey n a family member and i cant seem to get out of it, im so upset that my neck is sore, i can hardly move o turn my head.. stress im guessing?:( yes i did think re health/pet insurance, but it states online on all the different ones, not to be used for a pre-existing condition(her ears):(..

  • Storm’s Mom

The gas is actually another GOOD sign.. you MUST remember that she is trying to get rid of the bad stuff that is in her system…and the Brothers is helping to make that happen!!! The bad stuff has to get out somehow, and 99.9% of the time bad stuff comes out as gas or diarrhea. As has been said multiple times before by multiple people, things are going to appear to be getting worse for Audrey before they get better. The key is that they may appear to you to be getting worse, but Audrey is actually getting better. The high protein is not “making her sick” – it’s healing her!! It is soooooo important for you to remember that! You may hurt for her, but she is actually in RECOVERY!! Celebrate that with her!!

I would honestly say don’t worry about the surgery yet (other than maybe start to save up if you can) – it’s not a foregone conclusion that it will have to happen, so there is no use worrying about it yet. I don’t think this will help with this particular situation, but have you considered getting pet insurance for the future? It can really be a life saver (literally) when something major happens …but it usually only covers illness or injury that is diagnosed while you are insured (ie, it wouldn’t cover Audrey’s current situation).

Lastly, I’m not sure about your Brothers question… I *think* you wouldn’t need additional enzymes and probiotics if you are feeding Brothers, but others will be able to answer that better than I can.

  • debbie

thank you so very much, you guys have been so sweet to me , better then my own family, i know that sounds odd, but its true:(I will look on ebay for prices for it, is it like that blue power? that people make? is that cheaper to make?sorry, not to sound dumb, but what does NV stand for? do you feed that to your dogs? I keep feeling nothing will work:( please e mail me @ : lookatallthebooks at yahoo dot com
