Usually caramel is a coloring agent. I'm always disappointed to find any artificial coloring in a dog food. Why do you think it's there? For your dog? Coloring is used to make the product look more appealing to you… not your dog. After all, do you really think your dog cares what color his kibble is?

I became curious about Eukenuba because I used to be a fan many moons ago--fed to previous dog who died.
The guy at the pet store was giving away Eukenuba bags and I was a bit embarrassed to carry one. And I didn't want to advertise for this company.

What do you have to say about the caramel?

I know it is way down on the list, but it is in red.

Is caramel a sugar or a coloring?
