I have been feeding Acana to my dog since I adopted him from the SPCA and he is energetic, virtually doesn't shed at all, has regular stool and good appetite. The vet is amazed at his muscular mass and teeth cleanliness. I would (and I do !) recommend this dog food made in Canada!

I have fed Acana since it was introduced to Seattle. For my performance/hunting/show Pointers, there isn't a better food out there! They have tons of stamina, their skin and coats are spectacular, and they love it. This is a great food for working dogs, but may be too "high heat" for lap-type dogs. I spent hundreds of hours researching foods, nutrition and best-practices for my pack. When Acana came along, one review of the ingredients was all it took to switch me. Seeing the results in my happy, healthy, athletic dogs will keep me coming back!

Hi Linda... Dietary protein is a common (and controversial) issue. Although many still believe dogs need less protein as they age, more recent research suggests older dogs can have difficulty absorbing protein (especially the lower quality vegetable-based types).

Today, many canine professionals are beginning to recommend maintaining higher dietary protein for dogs. The article "<a href="http://www.b-naturals.com/newsletter/senior-dogs-and-special-needs/" rel="nofollow">Senior Dogs and Special Needs</a>" by respected nutritionist Dr. Lew Olson presents the more modern view.

After reading a few more articles supporting higher protein, please be sure to discuss the subject with your vet.

I have just started switching to grasslands and my vet and others have warned me that the protein level is too high. I really like the ingredients in this food because my female doberman has allergy issues and I want to eliminate grains. Plus I can get it at a local feed store only 10 minutes from home. What problems would be associated with the high protein level?

If food contains citric acid you should not pre-soak before feeding to lessen the risk of BLOAT, particularly if you have a large breed.

had my German Pointers on Orijen but after the price kept rising, I had to look for something more affordable. Wanted to stay with Champion foods because of their strict no-chemical policy. I will not feed my dogs any food that will not stamp 'no ethoxyquin, BHT,BHA" right on the bag. They do really well on Acana, prefering Grasslands, though I do switch them up between the 3 varieties, esp using the pacifica during the winter when dry skin can develope. I always add water to the kibble to soak for a few minutes to minimze bloat risk and it helps my sensitive stomach boy

We've recently adopted a retired racing greyhound. My four footed kids were on Acana Grain-Free because my recently passed Standard Poodle was having trouble digesting grains and in his senior years was having issues maintaining weight on a high quality raw diet. I have no clue what the grey was on before we got her and we ended up having to hard switch her. We picked her up after a 14 hour drive and the dog food question completely slipped my mind. With the stress of being in a new home, new food, new people, new everything - her b. movements weren't very pleasant for the first week. This week, however, she's easy to pick up after, the coat starting to come in along her spine is vibrant, course, and thick (compared to the brittle, dull stuff she's been shedding all over the house... LOL) and the first vocal trigger she learned was "Are you hungry? Get in your box..." If I'm not feeding raw, I'm definately keeping my Acana.

I have two Weimaraners 6 and 10 yo..Both rescues. My 10yo has a mild grain allergy..I was speaking with the wonderful owners of the Clever K9 in St Catharines On and they recommended Acana Grasslands.. my girls just love it and their coats and skin are so much better.
What a great product..
After our loss in 2007 of our 11yo to a Menu foods products, I am VERY picky now read every label and investigate every ingredient.
Thanks again for a great product

Hi. It was nice reading these experiences. The Wild Prairie was recommended to me many months ago. I have three Pembroke Welsh Corgis. One who was diagnised with IBD as a pup, whose almost 11 yrs, one who is 13 years old is becomming food sensative, and the other 11 yrs old who does good with almost anything. Changing from Wellness was so easy. They didn't have any stomach issues. Even my IBD Corgi has no problems with this food. My 13 yr. old has been doing great on it, but recently starting having the "runs". So I have switched him to another grain-free Limited Ingredient Food, but I still LOVE the Acana.

My dog Emma has seasonal allergies as well as food allergies. I had her on California Natural food for about a year. She was on the Fish/potato one, since I figured it would have less wheat and grain. And it was a good dog food. But Emma was also needing Benadryl almost daily. I spoke with a lady at OK Feed in Tucson AZ and she recommended Orijen Dog foods, since they are grain free. I started her with the Acana Pacifica and since then Emma has had very few allergy flareups and I have stopped giving her Benadryl. The product is great. And now Emma is drug free:)
