I have just received word from the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine that it has released an update of its official Pet Food Recall List.  The list is complete through October 20, 2009.

The new publication contains all 973 pet food products recalled by the U.S. government since January 1, 2006… even those made famous by the ill-fated pet food recall of 2007.

The Internet-based report includes…

  • Dog Food
  • Cat Food
  • Horse Food

Remember, the report is “historical” in nature.  That is, it contains both old and new items.  Although there are some recent recalls on the list, most products have already been removed from the market.

A Few List-Reading Tips

What may be of greater importance here would be scanning for “repeat offenders”… looking for companies that may have made it onto the list more than once.

By the way, the list does not usually contain dog food products that have been “voluntarily” recalled by their makers… only recalls managed by the FDA itself.

In any case, you can view the FDA’s complete Pet Food Recall List in all its glory by clicking here.

Maddening! The constant recalls are why I switched to a holistic pet food made by a private vet in her private manufacturing facility and have it shipped to my door. A friend that works in rescue turned me on to it at http://www.HumaneSocietyPetFood.com

It’s worth checking out so you don’t have to worry. Has never been recalled.
