Wellness Dog Food 95% Formula earns the Advisor’s top rating of five stars.
Currently, the Wellness 95% line includes five different flavors… each designed so that at least 95% of every can’s grain-free contents comes from the meat of its named animal.
Wellness 95% should not be confused with the company’s other two canned lines… Wellness Core and Wellness Canned Formula.
Here are three examples…
- Wellness Dog Food 95% Beef
- Wellness Dog Food 95% Salmon
- Wellness Dog Food 95% Lamb
After comparing products, Wellness Dog Food 95% Chicken was selected to represent the others in the line for this review.

As Promised… Lots of High-Grade Meat
The first ingredient in this dog food is chicken. Chicken is defined by AAFCO1 as “the clean combination of flesh and skin… derived from the parts or whole carcasses of chicken”.
Wellness boasts the meat used here is “95% USDA human-grade chicken”… a rare and praiseworthy feature.
The second ingredient is water… which (of course) adds nothing but moisture to this food. Water is a fairly routine finding in most canned dog foods.
In addition to natural flavors, this product also contains cassia gum. Cassia gum is a natural plant product used here as a thickener or gelling agent.
It is currently being considered for use in the U.S. human food industry… and is already approved by the governments of many European countries.
And lastly, this product uses carrageenan… a gelatin-like thickening agent extracted from seaweed. Carrageenan has been safely used as a food additive for hundreds of years.
An Important Warning
Remember… all-meat products like this are intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only. They are ideal for adding to dry kibble products as a flavorful mealtime “topper”.
Never for feeding for any length of time as the sole food in a dog’s diet.
Bottom Line
The dashboard reports a dry matter protein reading of 36%, a fat level of 27% and an estimated carbohydrate content of 28%.
The nutrient gauges suggest the Wellness 95% Formula to be an outstanding product… and the listed ingredients plus the lack of any Red Flag items appear to confirm that finding.
With outstanding ingredients like these… and our highest five-star rating… this product is definitely worthy of your consideration.
Enthusiastically recommended.
