Regal is an okay dog food, but, it's not worth paying twice as much for a bag of it, vs. Chicken Soup.

Regal lists sorghum, "poultry" fat, and synthetic vitamin K in the one flavor i clicked on. I did not look at anymore, just the one. Maybe some of it's lines are better than the one i clicked on.
See, If i was going to spend MORE on my dog food, i'd want an even better level of quality.

Yes, i agree with LabsRawesome, this is not a slam against humans, it is just factual assessment of the nutrtitional value of this dog food.

Long ago, i fed my dog horrible dog food, i shiver now to remember. I just did not know any better back then. I had no idea ppl could sell such lousy crapola to us. And i loved that dog!!! I would have done better for him,IF i had known better back then.Even humans who LOVE their dogs,(and who doesn't!!) could inadvertently be feeding their beloved dog the worst food around.I read something on this site, about the owner of this site, became interested in dog nutrition, when he had mislead by his veterinarian to feed some brand of dog food which he later realized, was not helping his dog at all. I totally understood his story, it was the same for me. I was feeding worst dog food, oh it was expensive, but it was still horrible dog food, and MY VET told me it was "great" dog food, so what did i know? This happens. this is WHY we dog guardians have to learn on our own what to feed our dogs.
and re: length of time something is sold,is no measure of a product's nutritional value. ONe of the most unhealthy products consumed by humans is drinking CocaCola, yet, that is one thriving company, and that product will be here, and be popular, long long long after we are all gone.....still, there is not one good thing one can say about the nutritional value of coke drinks.

Princesschristinasims,

Have you looked at any recipe books? I have this one but do not make homemade but it is quite informative:

http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/real-food-for-healthy-dogs-and-cats-cookbook.aspx

If you are not going to feed raw bones in the diet, you will need calcium supplementation. The book covers cooked and raw recipes and recipes with or without bones.

Also, have you watched this video?

http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/choosing-dog-food/karen-becker-best-worst-dog-food/

A whole foods supplement: I'm sure it has serving instructions on the bag. I prefer this one over Missing Link brand.

Here's a Breakfast Slop recipe from another forum:

I've never tried giving my dogs jerky, cuz i don't buy store bought dog treats, and don't know how to make it.

Does the dog have to chew jerky up for a while?

If so, that might not work for tricks and cue training, agility, doggie dancing/heelwork, etc, cuz i like the dog to get SMALL quick treat, to know "YES! THAT'S IT!" kinda thing, and keep going. If i had to wait while he chewed it, it'd really slow down some types of training, seems like.
But i've never bought jerky for dogs, it just "looks" unhealthy to me,
PLus, because i DO so MUCH daily training, if i am using food for reward markers,
i have to keep eye on calories...and my Liver Cookies are 2/3 green beans, but, they must "taste like" pure liver, cuz dogs do go nutters about them, all dogs do.
